Common CPAP Questions Answered

Post by CPAPCoach » Sun Jan 08, 2023 5:41 pm

Hey everyone! I wanted to introduce myself not as a sleep apnea sufferer but as a sleep apnea ”Helper”! Lol! My name is Josh and I own a company similar to all those that you probably got your CPAP equipment. I’m also a respiratory therapist and have been now for 18 years, 12 of those focusing on home sleep therapy. This is not me trying to sell my sleep products but simply trying and lend a hand where I can to help you and your sleep machines get along again. 😁. I’ve read a few posts and most have simple resolutions. So please, feel free to use me as a resource! I will try to read through my comments daily. Thank you!!!

Showing up at any public forum wearing tights and a cape while flashing credentials tends to scare people, just so you know. Prove yourself helpful over time and you will earn respect post by post, just like everyone else.

The other pros and long-experienced ones around here will be keeping an eye on you, so don't expect your opinions to be swallowed without challenge. Get used to disappointment, as they say.

Unwritten Rule #1 is show Pugsy the respect she's earned. The other mores, norms, taboos, folkways, etc. will become obvious to you as you get the lay of the land.

We hope.

Oh, and welcome!

 :)

Do not be surprised to feel less than welcome until/unless you have proven yourself.
We have encountered a good many know-it-alls, and do not abide by them.
Some never leave, having no clue . . .
Good luck in your journey.

Actually there are several professionals here who are greatly respected for their education and experience and helpfulness. Their observations are particularly appreciated by all except maybe for the jealous and clueless.

But I do agree wholeheartedly that someone's being a professional without showing any actual professionalism is usually frowned upon nearly everywere on the planet, with the possible exception of some random bars and fight club venues.

I find that in most forums the truly helpful people tend just to help instead of proclaiming their intentions to be helpful.

I saw your post on another message board where you indicated that you didn't know what Oscar was. I think you will find that many of the questions here involve Oscar in one way or another, Many of the people her have been using CPAP for 10-15-20 years . Don't be surprised if you get knocked down a few times if your answers are not correct. My advice is to read posts and answers for a while.

Many of us are here, having been FAILED by those who claim to have "all the answers,"
and happily profit from our suffering.
Most of us stay here to share our experience--for FREE.

No one but you mentioned kissing the ass of any god queen. Due respect is a far cry from kissing someone's ass.
Your comments were made for the sole purpose of causing turmoil and discord and just being an ass.
Please refrain from any further such comments. It's not helpful at all and for sure off topic.
Take such comments private if you must make them. There's no place for it here.

I was the person who approved the OP's first post here....I didn't see the need to make any further comments either.
That should have been enough and self explanatory as well.

It's pretty sad when a new person to this forum sees such ugliness instead of a warm welcome from the veteran forum members.

To everyone:
As for quality of advice from the OP......that remains to be seen doesn't it???? Why the need to be so negative and cause turmoil?
If you can't say something positive how about just not saying anything?

Everyone....get back on topic or maybe a better choice is for just locking this thread since it is fast becoming just a cesspool of negativity.
I am thoroughly disappointed in the direction this thread has taken by several people.

Good to see you CM, my PAP brother!!!

In this case I was being uncharacteristically purely sincere.

Reason being, I left CPAPtalk for a while because things had gotten too Wild West for me. Didn't like wearing my guns all day, watching my back, and watching the bodies of newbies stacking up over at the barber/coroner's office.

When I saw that a low-key newbie-focused sheriff got handed a badge here, that actually lured me back.

The days of anarchy had their appeal, but became tiresome and unwelcoming from my point of view.

I find Pugsy genuinely tolerant of opposing views. She just doesn't have a taste for living on popcorn and sour milk. I applaud her even-handedness, myself. Truly.

I am also a genuine fan of RobySue and Ozij. I don't post "+1's," but I applaud silently here in my home/office after most of their posts.

I only mentioned Pugsy in this thread because I don't think it is immediately clear to new arrivals who has mod duty, and she chooses to move among us in plain clothes with no badge visible. I also applaud that choice.

That said, every location has its own unique sociology test built in. I'm sure I test as many people as test me.

Hope the hose is treating you well and the miles are rolling on smoothly for you, sir.

I admit each one makes a personal judgment on how much respect she has earned. I don't consider her perfect. But I consider her judgment and fairness the best I've seen for a single-mod forum.

Hey, just me.

@Pugsy: Sorry for any part I played in the negativity, Pugsy. I was trying to share tips and pointers as entertainingly as I could. But as you know, you are ALWAYS welcome to edit ANY post I make if I egregiously cross a line in tone in your judgment. Tone is a tricky bidness in a forum.

Hi Josh, Thank you for reaching out to everyone with an offer to share your expertise. Your genuine offer that Pugsy pre-approved is appreciated. To help build confidence I'd recommend that you fully disclose the company you own and some additional CV details. Realize you likely held back to avoid the appearance of primarily marketing for new business. With a fuller disclosure folks may have more confidence in the validity of your recommendations.
