Sleep study results (need help)

Post by sleepyguywantofixit » Wed Dec 07, 2022 11:07 am

Hi to everyone!

For 2 years I have horrible sleep problems. Every night I go to sleep, fall asleep quite fast and wake up after around 8 to 10 hours but unfortunately I wakeup completely tired even more than at evening. (more of my symptoms are written in the next section of this post)

I had a sleep study test at the hospital about one year ago. They told me that

i don't have sleep apnea, but they told me nothing

about the rest of the results. In 2 days I have doctor

appoiment to talk about the results. What do you think about them?

here are the results:

Time in bed: 425,3 min

Total sleep Time: 386,3 min

Sleep Efficiency: 74%

Waso: 82 min

Sleep latency: 38min

Rem Latency: 268.5min

All stages of sleep were observed

only 1 NREM-REM cycle

n1 sleep increased

rem sleep decreased

n2 and n3 sleep normal

N1 sleep length: 42min(13.4%)

n2 sleep length: 188.3 min (59.9%)

n3 sleep lenght: 58 min (18.6%)

Rem sleep: 26 min (8.3%)

Here is the graph of my sleep cycles:

link: https://imgur.com/a/w26rYol

ahi(1/h): 2.3

rdi (1/h): 2.5

Sp02 min: 92%

CA: 1

OA: 0

MA: 0

Apnea: 1

Hypop: 11

A+H: 12

RERA: 1

Wakeups in rem sleep (1/h): 11.5

Wakeups in nrem sleep (1/h): 2.7

Ar wakeups (1/h): 4

Aw Wakeups (1/h): 1

Ar + AW (1/h):5

the sleep i had at the hospital was the besst sleep i had since last year. Doctor back then told me that i dont have sleep apnea but he didn't talk about other weird results. One year later i decided to look at the sleep study one more time becouse my problems with sleep were not getting better and my life quality keept falling down. I showed it to my different doctor few days ago andhe told that there is definitelly something wrong about this results and refered me to pulmonologist which i will see in 2 days.

What do you guys think about this results?

Is it possible for this test to be false negative? sleep i had at hospital was only good slep i had in last 2 years (how unfortunate:D) i usually dont google my symptoms, was quite healthy my whole life loved sports etc but since I starated to have sleep problems where I cannot wake up rested and feel like a literal zombie my whole life turned upside down and is now one big downhill so i try to gather every bit of information that can somehow help me end this not restfullnes hell

I dont know what can couse such sleep problems, from what i remember i always had not great sleep quality but gradually it keept getting worse from year to year to the point where i cannont function like normal person. Big turning poin was Covid, i get even worse sleep after i recovered from it (it was like one day i get medium quality sleep and after covid from day to day i get shit quality sleep)

here are my symthoms (i dont know if they fit to sleep apnea):

- i am very sleepy since few years, from year to year it got worse, after i had covid my restfull sleep just dissapeared.

- i dont have problem with falling aslep, its very easy, i can do it anywhere anytime, sometimes about 2 hours after i wake up i have to take about 1 - 2 hour long nap so my day looks like this: wake up around 9am, trying to get out of beed and open eyes for about 1 hour, when i am able to walk out i get to work, after about 2 h of work somewhere 10-12am i am falling asleep at desk (that happens everyday) after i comeback home around 4pm when lie in bed i fall sleep instantly for about 2 hours, then i do something to about 9pm and i fall sleep instantly at beed and sleep for about 8-10 hours

- so everyday i am extremly tired, its weird feeling, not tired feeeling like im ill or something, its just feel like i would not sleep for 48 hours.

- i have a lot of headaches, especially after i wake up and and evening before i go to sleep (its more like head pressure pressure more than actuall pain)

- generally in day life I dont know what is going on people are talking to me but I sometimes cant respond and process what is actually happening, like everything was a one big dream.

-when i try to read or learn i cant focus on letters

-since last year i lost a lot because of this (i have my own company and sometimes i cant even answer mails at morning becouse i feel so tired and i fall asleep)

- becouse of this symtomps i had a sleep study done one year ago

What do you think about all that? looking for any bit of information that can help me get back to living normally

Have you really thought about what was diff. sleeping in the lab... like a pillow, side vs back sleeping, cooler air vs hot at your place (or blankets), etc?

it was in the winter (around -5°C), and they had a heating malfunction, heating in the hospital wasn't working (so basically I was sleeping under 2 duvets/blankets), other than that everything was the same as in my home (as much as I can same the same:D)

Sleepyguy, something is obviously wrong; the big question is what. Please, please tell the pulmonologist EVERYTHING you've written in your post, right down to your pattern of naps and your difficulty processing what is going on around you. In fact, if you can print your post out, I strongly recommend that you take it with you and show it to the doctor, along with your whole sleep study report.

I'm going to guess the doctor will want to think about whether the way your sleep got worse after Covid is part of the diagnostic puzzle. You might want to think ahead of time how would describe your pre-Covid sleep and sleepiness. E.g., did you fall asleep at work? Nap frequently throughout the day? Have trouble reading and thinking?

And one thing I hope you and your doctor can explore: whether there's something unrelated to a sleep problem that is causing your symptoms.

Before covid, i would have worse sleeping days (especially when I had to go to work at early hours) These were events I described before as "not being fully awake" when after I woke up I had to do some activity for about 2/3h in work in order to stop yawning and feeling sleepy. Back then I didn't think it was anything bad (I could function normally, but I felt that something is a little bit off) but I didn't pay attention to it as much because I could go whole day without a naps, but slowly even before covid i had days when i would watch something after work and feel instantly asleep for sometime, but again back then i didn't think about it in terms of medical condition, i though everyone is like that

I wholeheartedly agree with what Miss Emerita said in her post above. Print out everything in this thread and take it to the doctor, so you don't have to remember everything in a fuzzy state.

when you come back make this your own personal thread and please tell us here what the doc said so we can follow your progress.

To me, it seems strange to order a test and then read it a year later. (I apologize if I misunderstood). I can't tell from the graph you posted what is what, though someone more knowledgeable might know.

I dont think it would be unreasonable for the doc to order another sleep study since you had covid in between there. And persuing other diagnosis is important too if it turns out that sleep apnea isn't your issue. There are sleep docs for that.

Good luck and please keep us posted if you feel up to it.

I have one. It helps.
I have the regular, "Cura Pearl", in winter I put my feather duvet on top of it.

Good description. Tell the doctor that, along with everything else.
