Resmed A11: Pressure adjust?

Post by rfsmith84 » Sun Nov 27, 2022 10:25 am

Folks,
I just received a new Resmed A11 from my device provider.
I tried to use it last night, and the pressure would not rise above "5".
I could not find a way to get the pressure up in the 13-15 range, which I need for quality sleep.
I have read/reviewed the manual twice, and could not find a way to get the machine into the correct range. The manual says that the machine will range from 4 to 20, automatically, for the pressure output.
HELP!
Thanks,
Rog

The REAL manual is not dispensed with cpap machines;
but you can download it for free online from apneaboard.com.
It is called the "clinician manual".
Using it is perfectly legal for patients, regardless of what you may be told.

You need a different manual.
The one that explains how to get into the ultra secret clinical setup mode where you can access the features to change the pressures.

1...I suspect you need to check mode of operation first....might be set to cpap mode which doesn't allow for pressure ranges...fixed mode
2...once confirmed in auto mode...then you can set your pressures.

Foilks,
Thanks for the inputs, especially the Utube video.
Several questions:
1. I set the pressures manually based on my current machine: 6 to 15. When I start the machine, the display runs up to 4, then stops. The line below the pressure read out says "6 to 15". The pressure does not seem to be going up to 15. (Based on a direct comparison to my existing machine.) I will try it tonite to get a bedtime comparison.
2. Under accessories: I do not have a menu item to allow me to select a tube type. (?)
Thanks again,
Rog

It sounds like you have ramp enabled. The default setting for ramp is to start a 4 cm. Make sure you have ramp turned off.

If you don't have a setting for the tube type, then you likely have a heated hose, which sets it properly for you.

Download OSCAR, stick an SD card in your machine, and upload a graph.

Your description of what you're doing and what's happening is not beneficial. A properly formatted graph will display the device settings and behavior.

Sounds like the ramp is still set to ON. And probably also set to Auto. Meaning the pressure ain't going to budge above 4 until the machine thinks you are asleep. Get back into the Clinical menu and turn the ramp OFF. That way the machine will start at your minimum pressure of 6cm.

The line below the pressure read out says "6 to 15". The pressure does not seem to be going up to 15. (Based on a direct comparison to my existing machine.) I will try it tonite to get a bedtime comparison.
When you just start an APAP running at 6-15, you're not going to see the pressure go up to 15 while you are sitting there watching the LCD.

The pressure is going to increase in response to flow limitations, snoring, and scored events (i.e. hypopneas and OAs). And since any one of these things is only going to result in a 1-2cm pressure increase in the short term, it's going to take quite a bit of intentionally "troubled breathing" while you are awake to see the pressure on the LCD go all the way up to 15.

To convince yourself that the machine is (or is not) working correctly, you really ought to download the data on the SD card into Oscar or upload it over at SleepHQ. Then you will be able to see a pressure curve that will show you how the pressures adjusted all night long in response to what was going on in your sleep breathing.

Sounds like you have a ClimateLine tube plugged into the AirSense 11. Tube type is only relevant when you are using an unheated hose with the machine.

AS11 won’t show hose settings unless you have a hose plugged into it.

frustrated me for a while there. hth

Folks,
Thanks for all the inputs.
I have now used this machine for about a week, and it seems to be OK.
I still have to sort out the Humidity levels, and the Hose heat ranges. No big deal.
I downloaded the OSCAR software, and took several tutorials. Looks like a good program.....BUT: My laptop does not have a socket for the SD card. What is a good way to resolve this issue?
Thanks again,
Rog

Folks,

This forum is GREAT!
I got the SD card adapter, and transferred the data to my C drive.
How many days of data can the SD card store?
I am guessing that it rolls over the older data when it is full (?)
I did not find a "save" function in OSCAR (?)
What is a good tutorial for a newbie?
Thanks again,
Rog

The SD card can hold years worth of data. OSCAR will read it directly from there so no reason to copy it to your computer, unless you want a backup.

To get started with OSCAR begin with this link https://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic/t88 ... Hints.html. Formatting of data is critical to get the most help from those schooled in OSCAR divination.
