if Apple Watch 8 show good sleep data, then...
Hi,
I think I might have sleep apnea, and I want to check.
I know that there is a device that I can buy from Lofta.
However I thought it might be wise to spend money to buy Apple Watch 8 instead of buying the sleep diagnose device which I can't use for other purpose.
I saw someone says, like "it can't comprehensively detect or diagnose sleep apnea.."
However I guess if Apple Watch's sleep data shows that I don't have any sleep issue, then it is more like that I don't have sleep apnea.
Can it be possible that I have sleep apnea even though Apple Watch shows my sleep data is perfect?
Thank you.

Yes. Apple watches are great, but aren't lab techs, doctors, etc. and while they might suggest sleep issues, you need much more data to decide if you have apnea or need Cpap. Get a proper lab test through your MD.

The watch won’t show you what you think it will. “perfect sleep “ is not discernible.
What it DOES show is O2 levels when you sleep. Any O2 tracking device will give useful info. ie fitbit.
I do love my apple watch but don’t get the sleep data you may think it provides. I say that again because the watch is expensive and your expectations sound greater than you will get.
You could start with the STOPBANG questionaire. See how it scores. Find out from a bed partner if they observe you stop breathing or gasping for air. Borrow a watch or fitbit with O2 tracker. And if stars line up or even if you’re unsure and just want to know, talk to your doctor.
You should probably talk to the doctor anyway. They could order a home sleep study or refer you out.

I first got a Garmin smartwatch that had an 02 sensor in it. Saw my oxygen levels were dipping into the low 80s most nights, thought that was fine until I learned it shouldn’t be below 90. Then went to doctor , then sleep doctor who gave me a sleep home study test. Month later got a machine. Watches and the ring 02 sensor are great for self diagnosing but to complete your health I recommend going to sleep doctor.

Smart watches are not medical grade devices. They are good for general direction like a compass, but if you want accuracy you need a GPS. In this case, a sleep study.

Re: if Apple Watch 8 show good sleep data, then...
Thank you for all replies.
I visited physician few days ago for different issue, and I asked him to write a prescription for CPAP for me.
However he refused and told me to go sleep doctor.
He also mentioned that it doesn't like I have sleep apnea because I'm not fat. He also told me that I can use Apple Watch to check..
Visiting sleep doctor will cost more, and getting a test device from Lofta which is $189.
So that is the reason that I was thinking to get Apple Watch.
By the way, if I have sleep apnea, I guess my O2 level will be abnormal in certain time.
So I guess that I can know weather if I have sleep apnea or not by seeing my O2 level during the night.
By the way, can CPAP device itself can check if I have sleep apnea or not, and can setup automatically for me?
Or do I need to visit sleep doctor?
Below are my symptoms.
I had chronic fatigue for long time.
I snore sometime, and I wake up during the night to pee almost every day(Nocturia).
Recently I visited a urologist and he said that I have prostatitis which also can make me to wake up during night to pee.
So waking up on the night may not caused by sleep apnea.
Thank you.

If you are trying to convince yourself you don’t have sleep apnea, then continue down that road. Getting a sleep analysis done is not cheap, but the alternatives are much more expensive and unpleasant.
Our sponsor, cpap.com offers home sleep tests for $175, if that helps.

I would advise op to get to that sleep doctor first.Jlfinkels wrote: ↑Tue Dec 06, 2022 2:12 pmIf you are trying to convince yourself you don’t have sleep apnea, then continue down that road. Getting a sleep analysis done is not cheap, but the alternatives are much more expensive and unpleasant.

Some MDs may not honor the results and may make them pay for their own study from their office.
Agree being overweight or not is not required.
The apple watch is over $400.(roughly) None of the wearables are medical grade.
please google STOP BANG.
PS he wasn’t wrong to not write the cpap script. Without sleep test it will not be considered “medically necessary “. Like scripting BP meds without taking your bp first.
