I think the return policy may vary. I purchased my original Z1 from CPAP.com. I did have a 30 day trial on that unit, an I ended up returning it an purchasing a Z2. Things may have changed due to supply chain problems and the shortage due to the Philips recall.

The people who confuse "entomology" and "etymology" really bug me beyond words.

Cpap.com absolutely will not allow a refund on a Cpap machine that has been opened and used. Not with the current policy anyway. They have zero trial period. Most online retailers offer a 15 day or 30 day trial. If you purchase a cpap machine from cpap.com and don’t like it after using it at all it’s yours to keep. They told me (2 days after the sale) that a refund is strictly prohibited and recommended that I sell it on the used market if it doesn’t fit my needs. They will only accept returns on unopened items and there’s a restocking fee for that.
I will say that I knew this policy upfront and they provided excellent support throughout this situation. What I did not know or understand was the complex data retrieval process. They also had my prescription on file which made them an easy choice for me. I purchased my 1st machine from them a few years ago when they had a free trial policy. That Airsense 10 has been a fabulous unit. I still think cpap.com is a great company. I intend to continue using them but probably won’t purchase another machine there just because of the strict policy:) They do have free trials on masks, just not machines.

Thankfully I’m OK now. I used the mini last night for a solid 8 hours of sleep (1.9 average events per hour) without waking up once. I can’t find much to complain about with good rest like that!

About the pilot thing. Yes, a pilot who’s taking proper action to ensure healthy rest is MUCH better than one who refuses to acknowledge the problem or dangers. Thankfully the FAA recognizes this and has an excellent program in force to allow a “special issuance” medical certificate for pilots who are in strict compliance. It has to be under the direct control of a sleep doctor, pulmonologist in my case. It requires regular visits. The data is then taken in person to an aviation medical examiner (AME) for review of everything plus all the normally required items (urinalysis, EKG, etc). Then the combined information from the pulmonologist and AME are sent to the FAA . The FAA’s medical chief ultimately reviews everything and gives the entire package his official blessing. They require much more usage and data than insurance companies. The FAA has minimum acceptance levels of (I think) 80% usage with no less than 6 hours per day. I’m hitting about 98% and averaging over 7 hours per night so I’m not too concerned with the minimums. This all gets done every 6 months with a more detailed review by the Fed’s every 12 months. Hope that helps understand the pilot process.

Thanks again!

Glad you were able to resolve your problems with the machine. I have no experience with the Airmini but I bought a Breas Z2 Auto this spring, it was very loud and I couldn't sleep with it at all. After a good deal of research and experimentation it works well for me now. I was able to reduce the mask, hose and machine noise. It was a combination of several things that made it much quieter and usable. Not all masks are equal in noise level so a quiet mask can help. There might be quieter masks out there but the P10 is the quietest that I know of and use. Using a Q Tube Muffler in line with the hose helped reduce the noise more. The machine came with a 4 ft hose and going to a 6 foot hose reduced the noise. After that I tried the 6 foot collapsible travel hose and that made a huge difference in the noise level, more than anything else. The other thing I figured out is that this machine seems to really move a lot of air. I was able to reduce the machine pressure and still achieve good therapy and results, which also reduced the noise level. Also the Z2 makes a whining sound when it ramps the pressure up and down with inhale and exhale. I figured out that this annoying sound is much quieter if you run it in cpap mode or the other solution which I currently use is to turn the exhale relief pressure setting as low as possible when in the auto mode. Of course the last things I mention don't have anything to do with your Airmini but I wanted to mention them for those that might use the Z2.
