Re: want to sell my new cpap machine
If you are thinking of having your insurance pay for the machine and then selling it, I think that may be considered Insurance Fraud. ...plus...if insurance pays for it you must show use compliance during the first 90 days....If you are going to pay out of pocket for the new machine, your idea makes no sense.

IF you don't have a backup cpap you might want to use the new cpap and keep the old one for a backup?eSwami wrote: ↑Wed Sep 28, 2022 1:24 pmI just got a new prescription for a new machine. I have been using resmed a10 for over 5 years now and don't want to get a new machine now.

Suppose you get rid of this new one then the old one fails your insurance is not likely to buy yet another.
But hey its your call.
Can you sleep w/o a cpap?
Cuz it could take months to get another cpap for you at that point.

Re: want to sell my new cpap machine
Thank you all for your responses and questions and concerns.
I think I probably should have said more.
I want the inssurance to pay for it and then sell it and then buy the resmed airmini which I have been told inssurance does not cover!
Hope that helps address some of the questions.
I think my plan b is to exactly what SleepGeek said...get a new resmed and use it and keep the one I have as backup!

Re: want to sell my new cpap machine
Who told you that? Medicare pays for travel machines. Most insurance companies follow the Medicare rules.
The HCPCS code for a CPAP machine (home or travel) is E0601. Call your supplier and find out if this is the code they will use to bill the insurance company for the travel machine you want. Then call the insurance company and ask them how much they cover for this code.
Insurance employees work on HCPCS codes. They have trouble understanding words.
Re: want to sell my new cpap machine
If the DME told you that your insurance doesn't cover the AirMini, but your insurance company pays by HCPCs codes as Chicago Granny points out (almost certainly), then it's the DME that's lying. Insurance companies don't care WHICH E0601 machine you get as long as you use it enough to meet the compliance requirements. But it may indeed be insurance fraud to sell it and report compliance on another machine.
The DME may be prohibited from "balance billing" which means charging you the difference between a standard CPAP and this travel machine, so they are lying to you in order to avoid having to eat the difference.
However, looking at the retail price of the AirMini compared to other E0601 machines, I don't see much difference. So more than likely your DME doesn't stock them, and doesn't want to trouble themselves to do a special order.
If your insurance permits it, you can try other DME's, you might find one willing to order what you want.
BTW, just of passing interest, CPAP.com touts this benefit of the AirMini "Produces White Noise: 30 Decibels to Quietly Treat OSA On-the-Go". Never heard say anyone before claim the machine sound as a virtue.

Re: want to sell my new cpap machine
Does the mini have ability to show compliance data?
If not, that might explain the resistance.

Re: want to sell my new cpap machine
I use an AirMini when I travel. I check MyAir in the morning to see how things compare to my home machine (and OSCAR reports) to be sure everything is OK. I would assume if the AirMini is registered with the DME they also would be able to see the data via MyAir? Or whatever the appropriate program is.
