Humidifier is a comfort feature which you can use with or w/o water.

Look at it from another point of view. Would machine manufacturers subject themselves to huge legal liabilities if there were a shadow of doubt that humidifiers would cause brain damage? Of course not!

If there was any credible evidence of actual or potential harm, you can be sure of a class action suit.

Move on.

All of this to ask: the humidifier is perfectly fine to use right?
IMO, it is perfectly fine to use the manufacturer’s humidifier with clean water.

“Naegleria fowleri has not been shown to spread via water vapor or aerosol droplets (such as shower mist or vapor generated from a humidifier) “ - according to various health departments and researchers.

Not all doctors know what they are talking about. The covid 19 disaster was riddled with misleading advice and some lies.

Just because someone has some fancy letters after their name doesn't mean they know it all, walk on water or despite how they might view themselves....they aren't God..... and they sure as hell don't know everything.

Reminds me of a sort of joke....you know what they call the guy who graduated at the bottom of his class in med school??? "Doctor."

The bullfrog was a high school dropout, but got paid (in a sense) to go to the university.
He attended classes and even took tests- paid by registered students--
some ultimately became doctors.
(Some, no doubt, specialize in sleep medicine)
There is little doubt this is/was widespread. No one is truly safe.

I survived my daughter going through medical school (a team effort as I was her main stress relief valve and test prep buddy), and I can tell you I am not impressed with how the sausage is made. They have exactly two years to cram enough basic knowledge into their heads to pass the boards, they are barely tolerated during the next two years of hospital rotations supposedly learning on the job from residents and attendings who don't necessarily have good teaching skills. Plus my daughter was in the middle of medical school rotations when COVID hit and hospitals affiliated with her school refused to provide PPE for Medical Students, essentially kicking them out of hospital settings for a good chunk of time (right in the middle of her best rotation ever with a truly gifted attending who was really TEACHING). She did things like her surgical rotation online

She landed in a good residency with a faculty and staff dedicated to teaching, and now her complaints are about how far she has to walk to the parking structure at night instead of feeling unsupported in her medical education, but it's certainly not all I hoped a medical education would be for her. There is a distinct lack of critical thinking being taught.

When a doctor makes a ridiculous statement like this (and I have heard my share!) I look them in the eye and say "show me the literature." I can do my own research and see that there is none supporting this uninformed claim.

Wat? I haveauto immune disease that makes my nose/throat/mouth so dry it can hurt to breathe and I can't even describe what a difference the humidifier makes to my life. It means as much to my ability to sleep as the air does. I'd hate to have to go without it.

I went for my 1 month follow up appointment with my sleep doctor yesterday. I’m at 100% compliance and I have to have the humidifier turned on in it every night. I love the thing — I’ve literally never slept this good before in my life. Well, my doctor told me yesterday that he wanted me to stop using the humidifier portion because it wasn’t needed, and that the humidifier adds the risk of me getting a brain eating bacteria. I use new distilled water in it every night and clean it weekly, so I don’t really get his concern about the brain eating bacteria and honestly think it was just a scare tactic. Anyway, I tried to follow his instruction and sleep without the humidifier on last night. I made it through two hours of discomfort and no sleep before I turned that sucker back on. Slept great the rest of the evening.

All of this to ask: the humidifier is perfectly fine to use right? I’m not going to be able to effectively use the CPAP without it, and I don’t want to go back to sleeping (or lack there of) like I did before I got the machine. I’ve searched through the posts and couldn’t find anything even remotely discussing this subject, so I appreciate any feedback. Is my doc just strange or is there a legitimacy to his claim?
Your doctor is a moron!
In the first place, There would be NO bacteria in distilled water.
Second, bacteria is too large/heavy to be carried out of the humidifier tank with water vapor
Third, remind your idiot doctor whose therapy it is.....clue...IT AIN'T HIS!!!....IT'S YOURS....and YOU will make those decisions!
