Interpret my OSCAR results with me

Post by SeanyB011 » Fri Aug 12, 2022 2:56 pm

Hey Guys,

Just did some screen grabs from my CPAP therapy last night. Bit confused interpreting these results as I'm a newbie at this but eager to learn. Let me know what you think. :)

https://imgur.com/a/0PYdZVZ - Overall for the night. Heater during the night I think interrupted my sleep and I woke up, switched the machine off and went back to sleep. Think I also got a little bathroom break in there shortly after.

https://imgur.com/ebhQqfr - This looks like genuine Hypopnea to me or could be periodic breathing :?: -

The images all together below look like Centra Apneas - so does this mean I raise or lower the minimum/maximum pressure? Also i'm using EPR 3 but probably shouldn't.

https://imgur.com/n7WNAIp - Think the machine did well here identifying an obstructive apnea here and then raising the pressure. Interesting how there wasn't an increase in flow rate prior. Body just decided instantly to apnea itself.

https://imgur.com/SJ9Iij4 - Periodic breathing or hypopnea I'm really not sure??

Always trying to improve my sleep therapy so if you have any advice on pressure settings etc let me know. Cheers!

Nothing needs changing...The AHI is low and consists mainly of Centrals which are insignificant. Don't over analyze.

As LSAT said above, no big deal.

Two things to be aware of.

First, you can look at the EVENTS tab and see the duration of the centrals. If they are 15 seconds or less, I would not be concerned. During the daytime, many people hold their breath for 15 seconds -- reading a suspenseful book, watching a suspenseful movie/video, or maybe concentrating hard on a delicate procedure in a hobby.

Secondly, there are "treatment -emergent" centrals. When people are new to PAP therapy, they expel more CO2 which causes the brain not to send out the message to inhale. When they don't inhale, the CO2 builds up to the point where the brain will send out the inhale signal.

May I suggest investing some time and effort reading the wiki and learning.

There's been a few moments were I've thought this. Just wasn't sure how in detail to go.

My reason for diving into the data with more detail is recently I've been experiencing pretty bad fatigue compared to when I first started towards the end of that first month I'd noticed improvement in my fatigue.

Oh I didn't know this. I thought it was 10 seconds but definitely good to know.

Emergent Centrals, interesting. I can definitely understand how this might occur, I use EPR which I would think help reduce these CO2 build ups but I'm still learning so who knows.

I'll give the wiki and forum a bit of a read, cheers!
