Fitbit works - Oxygen Sat

Post by Architect » Fri Aug 05, 2022 3:33 pm

Many nights fitbit showed high 02 spikes. Sent phone images to sleep clinic. I had a home oximetry test, clinic called today state, my 02 sat dropped below normal, 2 nights out of 3. First night 14 minutes, 2nd night 20 minutes, 3rd night normal. So, clinic ordered oxygen tank for bipap and another another sleep study at hospital, to figure out why? my 02 sat dropping below normal, only during sleep, rest of the time I breathe 99%-100%

Tech states, adjusting pressure during sleep study may resolve, if not I'll be sent to pulmonologist, to figure out why my 02 sat drops.

Clinic shared alot of information. My head was spinning.

I shared with clinic, I battle alot of infections, could that be the cause of 02 drops during sleep, tech states yes. He's noticed alot of Covid patients, on pap therapy have 02 sat drops, during illness. I shared been tested think 12-14 times for Covid, always negative, but I do get alot of upper respiratory viral/bacterial infections.

So now making major progress, after numerous appts........

Have you been checked for asthma? My O2 sats were staying around 90% even though I'm already on cpap. I was put on 24 hour O2. After several tests I was diagnosed with asthma and with inhalers the asthma is under control. I'm still using O2 with my cpap at night but I haven't needed it during the day anymore.

Hi friend, thanks for reply/info. Yes, was tested for Asthma several years ago. Negative. But not going to rule out, cause I do sneeze alot, but no allergies, no sinus disorder. I am a smoker, but lung function normal. My journey has been a mystery.

My 02 sat mainly normal range during sleep, such as this week fitbit data show no 02 high spikes. But last week several nights showed high spikes. Just certain times my 02 sat spikes high. Going to see if sneezing = fitbit 02 sat high spikes.

I battle alot of upper viral/bacterial infections, so not ruling out Asthma, or other lung disorders, will discuss with allergist/pulmonogist.

Low 02 sat may be reason why, I wake up during sleep. Some nights I don't wake up at all, sleep wonderful, while other nights I hardly sleep at all. Oscar software rarely shows any flags. So pap therapy working well...

I suppose you are referring to the Fitbit EOV (estimated oxygen variation) graphic. If so, we’re you able to find out what the scale of the y-axis is?
It’s not clear to me what the distinction is between “high” and “low” variation is. Is it 2%, 3%. 4% or what?

Sorry friend, don't know what your asking? Graph shows two white lines, low/high, when 02 goes above high graph line, 02 green line color changes to orange/red. More detailed oximetry test, can be performed by sleep clinic.

Is the "low" range 0 to 2% variation and the "high" 2 to 4% variation OR
is the 'low" range 0 to 3% variation and the "high" range 3 to 6% variation OR
is it something else?

You need to look at OSCAR for the times when the O2 saturation is low. Are there breathing events during these times? Or is breathing normal?

Hi friend, I did look at Oscar, those day's I was oximetry tested, no flags, all was normal.
