Titration Study Observations

Post by chipva » Thu Jul 21, 2022 10:30 am

Last night I went in for my follow up titration sleep study (the one where you wear a mask and they change the pressure while you sleep). Here are some observations from the night from me.
  • The mask wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It still sucked and I don't like the idea of a dead octopus on my face. But I slept well and didn't feel awful with it on.
  • I was started on a pressure of 5 which was ramped up to 11 during the night. I apparently didn't sleep on my back which I rarely do anway which I was told usually requires extra pressure.
  • I am apparently a mouth breather. I first tried a nasal pillow mask (the Dreamwear brand) and then a full face which went up over my nose. I tried the Dreamwear F30i which leaked up the sides of my nose.
  • I ended up using a F30 for the study and it worked well except when I lay on my right side when it leaked pretty badly.
  • unfortunately no "magic bullet" but maybe that's because I was only allowed to sleep for 6 hours.
  • interested to hear back from the Doctor and get my prescription for my CPAP so I can move forward.
Thanks to Pugsy and the other folks here for the pep talk (or butt-kicking :) ) and for the loan of the "box o'masks". I'll try them out for real as soon as my machine arrives and see what works. I'll also be trying the chin strap to see if the nasal pillows will work for me.

Standard advice when tying a mask: Carefully watch three or four youtube videos on fitting and adjusting that exact model. Some of the videos are quite good.
