Sleep Apnea Short term?

Post by KENSKIP1 » Sun Jul 17, 2022 10:57 am

Well, I have been using my bipap device foe well over two months now. However for the past week it is now more of a hinderance. Example. Went to bed 10 PM with unit work at previous settings. All is well. Awoke at 230 and machine was working fine. However I was unable to get back to sleep. That day I rode a stationary bicycle for 20 minutes riding on hilly terrain. I made 4.3 miles at level 12 out of 20. A few days prior I had similar problems. I exchanged for a new mask. I still have the same problems. It appears as if I have a good seal however there is air constantly leaking out the front holes where the hose connects to the mask. Initially after I managed to get things dialed in, things were great. I felt better was more jovial but until recently. Things have turned out for the worse.

I think that I should mention that I have an appointment with a surgeon at the end of August to discuss having a Radica Prostatectomy. My PSA has risen again. Could this be a possible cause of my loss of sleep?
Here are the settings from my device. Thank you for your advice. Ken

Which mask? Are you talking about the normal and expected vent holes that all masks have so that the carbon dioxide we exhale gets washed out of the mask and we don't go rebreathing it which is bad for us? All masks vent...it's a much needed critical feature...it's called "intentional leak" for a reason.

Pugsy, ResMed AirFit™ N20 Mask . This is what came with the device. As to the vent holes. what you said makes perfect scents. A high pressure causing a low pressure to evacuate byproducts. However is this incoming air under pressure the same air that I am breathing in or doesn't it matter. All I can say is that my sleep has been off lately.

Any number of things can cause our sleep to be "off" and most of them we can't identify as a specific cause...unfortunately.
This is where we get to say that sometimes "crap happens".

Perhaps it is just the stress and worry about the recent change in health status and up coming procedure?????

We often look to cpap or apnea as the cause to all our problems but most of the time....it's something else going on that is the cause of a change in anything.

If you are quite often feeling that vented air coming out....that alone can disrupt sleep.
