AirFit F30i size Med vs Wide - anyone using Wide?

Post by cabanalane » Thu Jun 09, 2022 11:48 am

AirFit F30i cushion comes in S, SW, M, and W.

Anyone tried both sizes? I have a Medium but as a mouth breather, sometimes my jaw drops down, and therefore cause a leak as my lower lip pops out of the cushion. Looking at Amazon, the "Wide" is consider a Large. Is the Wide "larger" then the Medium?

There is the sizing guide, but it deals with the nose shape and does not tell me the actual dimension of the Wide cushion.

If you have the Wide F30i, do you measuring the length and wide for me?

TIA

I really like the F30i, and would hate to have to give it up (and use F20 Large).

Why would a wider mouth section of this mask keep your lower lip from becoming exposed? Unless the corners of your lips slip outside the footprint of the mask mouth section, a wider mask is unlikely to help - the mask will still not cover the lower lip of an open mouth.

I use a medium in the AirFit F30i. Here are some ideas to prevent jaw drop.

1. Practicing holding the tip of your tongue on the roof of your mouth and keeping your lips closed.

2. Use a foam cervical collar to help prevent jaw drop.

3. Use mouth sleep tape to prevent jaw drop. https://www.amazon.com/Adhesive-Snoring ... r_1_3_sspa

4. All of the above

It doesn't. I'm trying to find a solution to continue to use the F30i. And just saw that a Wide is also label as "Large" on some websites. They do not make a F30i in Large. Exploring all options before I go back to F20 that is all.

As for tape or anything to keep a mouth closed, I can't use that because I'm a mouth breather and if my mouth is closed, I would not be able to breathe. Also have deviated nasal septum, so my nose "does not work." I'm fine day to day for all of my life, prior to apnea. Since having apnea, I have to find a new normal.

It's likely you had apnea all along, of course, just became aware of it on testing.

I highly recommend that all OSA patients have a consultation with an ENT who will examine the airway. This can often shed light on the cause of OSA.

And, maybe more important in your case, there are treatments and nasal surgeries that can correct a nose that "does not work." Oral breathing impacts health in several negative ways. And, as you are finding out, a nose that does not work can make CPAP therapy very difficult.

Schedule that appointment.

The mask cushion on the wide and the medium is the same. The wide refers to the width of the nose cradle.

A cervical collar will keep the chin up and mask out of one's mouth.

Good luck.

Yes, I need that too. Thanks.
