Do People Turn off the Humidifier in the Summer?

Post by SJ-Paddler » Thu May 19, 2022 2:32 pm

Was reading a different thread, the one about ensuring your wine is kept at a proper temperature but not the missus, and made me want to ask if it is normal to turn off your humidifier in the summer?

This is my first summer, I started in January, and the humidifier and heated hose kept me quite warm. My wife had a ton of blankets but breathing in 85 degree air kept me kind of warm without them.

What about the summer? Do we turn off the humidifier and heated hose to stay cooler? I have always left my Airsense 10 in Auto mode as every time I tried to adjust it manually I got rain out OR a sore throat from hot dry air.

I was just wondering what the long timers do.

Thanks.

Where I live the average daily temp in summer is about 90 F and humidity is 85, inside the house we keep it at 72 F and humidity at 50. I don't change anything on the CPAP (both temp and humidity are set to auto) and use less than half the water in the tank compared to winter. I have not tried changing anything as it works as it is currently set and my sleep is fine, so don't want to break something that is working.
Sometimes it is the very people who no one imagines anything of who do the things that no one imagines

Nothing is "normal". Everyone does whatever is most comfortable for them. Some areas are very humid...others are not.
Personally, I have never used a heated hose.

I normally turn off the humidifier year round, only time I use it is the rare times when i get a cold or congestion.

It varies with the 'long timer'. Pugsy's totally different as far as her humidity needs.

Yep. I would go without the cpap machine before I would ever go without my humidity. My nasal mucosa need what they need to be happy and it doesn't change with the seasons....or even ambient temps.
Now my chances for rain out will increase with the changing of temps but I manage to prevent it most of the time.

This is me...I would snort water if I could.

no, he's quite right, though of course i can't find it right now. janknit's husband stores the white wine in the garage, i think, which he has air conditioned.

he's a wine maker.

I'm in Arizona. I turn mine on in summer. Usually don't use it much but I generally turn it to 1 or 2 in the summer

I leave mine on with the same settings. (3)

I find very little water is used, I haven't experimented with turning it off. I think I might try turning it down, then off as the humidity increases.

I could never get used to using the humidifier so I finally turned it off. I recently realized I could save night table space by taking the humidifier off my unit completely so it's half the size now.

Leave mine on year round and I live in a high humidity area. I use AS11's ClimateLineAir with automatic humidity. When the ambient humidity is high, my water chamber lasts a few nights.

Once I found the right settings, I have never had cause to change it.
My Airsense automatically keeps the same humidity, whatever the season.
Winter, summer, rainy, or drought--life is beautiful.
Before cpap, I suffered from dry nasal passages--itchy, cracking, scabby--ugh!
If my apnea were suddenly cured (as if!)
I would keep my cpap for the humidity alone.

The purpose of the humidifier is to prevent the nasal passages from drying. If you like that it keeps you warm in winter, that is a side benefit.

My nasal passages don't get dry, and I don't like heat in the bed. I never use the humidifier, not even in the coldest weather.

Do what suits YOU.

The people who confuse "entomology" and "etymology" really bug me beyond words.
