cool the hot summer cpap air by freezing humidifier ?

Post by watertrails » Wed May 11, 2022 2:31 pm

Now with hot humid weather id like to cool the air instead of heat it as in winter. I have the humidifier turned off as i dont need or want it on now. I experimented with putting only some mini ice cubes in water container and leaving the humidifier off. THis still somehow added more unneeded and unwanted moister to my nasal mask. But did seem to cool the ir some. some. I was going to look for some nontoxic plastic container to freeze water in that would fit in the container. The room is the warmest when i first go to sleep and cools some as the night goes on so even cooling the air at the beginning of the night would help. I was thinking of simply putting the empty humidifier water container in the freezer doing the day but was concerned if freezing it might crack it. Anyone ever try this or freezing something else to to put in the water container to cool the air? flat rock or Something ?

Get an AC for your room?

Sleep in a mesh hammock, in the range of a running fan, naked.
No AC needed . . .

We have no AC and I don't use a humidifier (6 years of training with a ^%$# PRS1 humidifier that never worked!). The air from my CPAP is pretty cool and I often cool my wrists from the vent on hot summer nights. And I have a tower fan that blows directly on me which I can control with a remote. Menopause and summer don't mix well.

You're so lucky.
It can get too hot here to SLEEP.
AC is expensive, but we'd rather not croak from heat stroke.

Can't you sleep in the frog pond?
We have a homemade wine cellar in our garage that has AC to keep the precious wine cool (husband is a retired wine maker). It's the only place in the house that has any AC. I've threatened to sleep in there, but it would be very weird. And not a safe place to be when the "Big One" hits.

If you still have the PRS1 maybe this is your problem. viewtopic/t102275/Fix-Respironics-Syste ... blems.html

Janknitz, if hubby can afford AC for the whine, why can't he spring for AC
in the bedroom--(or YOUR bedroom, as the case were?)

Every time we ever slept in an air conditioned room (albeit, almost always hotel rooms and who knows if they EVER clean those AC units!) he has suffered from horrible allergies. So he would be miserable, I think. I can keep windows open at night IF I remind him to take Zyrtec before bed. Fortunately, we only have a dozen or so nights a year when it just won't cool down. Most of the time we have a lovely coastal breeze and often fog (natural air conditioning). When we have a few days of high heat in a row, though, the house won't cool down at night.

And we didn't buy most of the wine that used to occupy the cellar. He was an assistant winemaker to a large winery "family" and received a case of everything they made, about 45 - 50 cases a year. Building the cellar was self-defense! Otherwise, I was contemplating getting rid of the furniture and using stacked cases of wine instead. But he's been retired for six years now and between many charitable donations and our evening wine with dinner, most of the wine is gone. The cellar makes a great pantry now.
