Alternative to SoClean 2

Post by GeorgieLH » Sun May 15, 2022 10:21 am

Hello,

My first post here and I hope I can get some insights from users and NOT sales people.

I have a So Clean 2 machine to clean my Bi-Pap machine, mask, tube, water reservoir, and all. I use this with my ResMed S10.

The other day, the little plastic piece that makes the lid latch broke and now I can't close the lid, and that means I can't use the So Clean 2 machine.

I called to ask what to do, and So Clean customer service stated that for $149.00 I can get a replacement. I do remember paying $299.99 for it so that was kinda steep and I saw the machine at $249.99 at a store near by.

I would like to know if anyone has found and likes a different cleaning machine than the So Clean 2.

Please let me know.

Have you not seen this?
If you have and choose to ignore it...that's your choice but don't expect any response except a negative.

How can people be so unaware of the problems using SoClean and other ozone machines.

This forum is intended to help users. Simply put, there is no ozone machine that is good for you and your machine. Providing any answer suggesting an alternative does a disservice to you or any other person who stumbles into this topic.

Very good advice, indeed.

I just about never wash my long hose. It doesn't get dirty.

The machine itself just gets an occasional, gentle surface dusting.

I use soap and water once a week to clean my short hose/mask interface. But a good schedule for mask cleaning may be different for different kinds of masks.

I use distilled water in the chamber. I fill it to the maximum line and leave the water in there until it gets down below the minimum. Then I dump out the water and let the chamber air dry during the day. If you use non-distilled water, you'll want to wipe out the chamber before you let it air dry so you don't get mineral deposits on the bottom plate.

I replace the filter in my machine around once every two or three weeks.

I hope this helps! Please don't continue to use So Clean.

And report any DME who displays a soclean hooked up to a Resmed,
contrary to Resmed's own warnings.
REPORT TO RESMED.

As others have said, stop using it and recycle it with electronics. It’s not doing you or the environment any good.

Because most people don't hang around in forums like this one. Also because the people who sell CPAPs are often the same people who push the so-called cleaners. Somebody recently diagnosed with apnea is often in a state of confusion, with no little fear as well. They are prime targets for unscrupulous pushers.

Yup, exactly. I have at least three acquaintances that are CPAP users that use a SoClean. They don't participate in any online forums so the likelihood of knowing that a SoClean is not particularly good for a machine or possibly their own health is next to none. I have mentioned it to a couple of them, but I believe it fell on deaf ears. In their minds the DME experts and William Shatner can't be wrong, plus they paid a lot of money for their SoClean, so it's a big investment to just toss in the trash.

Any cleaning that I do is done in harmony with the methods recommended by the manufacturer's instruction manual. And I am not aware of any manufacturer of masks or PAP machines or hoses who recommends using any sort of "cleaning machine" on their products. I have only seen warnings against doing so.

Maybe it will all get sorted out in court one day. Or not.

THANK YOU Pugsy!

No I have not seen this, and now I can kick myself for spending all that money on a machine not recommended by the manufacturer of my CPAP machine.

I heard about a recall, on TV and in emails, but it did not concern my machine brand, model, and manufacturer so I let it be, but where would this kind of information be published? ResMed has my contact info (when I registered my machine) so would they be sending such info?

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Dog Slobber!

This was my first post and I am new to CPAP therapy following brain surgery.

No the surgery was not the reason I did not know about this issue, it is the newness of the whole thing. When the sales person said you need this tube, and this filter, and you have a choice of these masks, and then you need this cleaning machine, one would not question what is needed, and what is optional.

So... I guess I paid for something that I did not need.

Thanks chunkyfrog,

Yes at times sales people do not work with the customer's best interest at heart!!! The only thing the customer can do is be informed, and this is why I searched a lot until I found this forum.
