Any point in dropping pressures?

Post by Thellra » Sun Apr 17, 2022 5:27 am

Had my annual sleep doctor visit last week, apparently the nice one retired so it turned into a 45 minute lecture on why it's important to listen to the doctor, and that anything under 5AHI is fine and I should quit 'messing' with my machine.

Anyways, I was looking at OSCAR data for the first time in a bit, and really don't understand why I'd want it lower if it's not bothering me They titrated me in lab a few years ago to APAP 7-20, but my sleep quality is horrible at that pressure (no oscar logs, SD card died)

It seems like PS3 over 14 is pretty great...

I had it at PS5 over 14 for the longest time, (142 days AHI .02) but my tidal volume was high enough that I got sent to a pulmonologist who had me lower the pressure support a bit (apparently 700ml bad, 600ml good?)

Any reason I should be shooting for a lower pressure though?

i must agree with lsat.

if your doctor insists, you may want to find a doctor that understand the purpose of sleep apnea therapy.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Hyperventilation is a thing. To answer the question about 700 bad, 600 good, you'd want to talk with the pulmonologist. But as for 3 over 14: if that's OK with the pulmonologist, I don't see why it wouldn't be OK, period. I notice your flow limitations drop at that setting, compared to the others. If it feels good, go for it!

And that stuff about anything under 5 is good and don't play with your settings -- sheesh.

My suggestion is to fire your new sleep "doctor" (more like dictator).

GOOD doctors encourage patient involvement.

Quacks with a god complex don't care about your health, just about being obeyed.

Looks like he was a 'traveler' so I wont have to see him again.

I know hyperventilation is a thing, but it was my understanding it wasn't an issue unless it started causing central events or something.

Please talk with your pulmonologist about hyperventilation. Your understanding may be correct, but you need to get an opinion from an expert. This is YOUR doctor, so get him/her to help you.
