AirSense 11

Post by Bacillusman » Mon Jan 24, 2022 7:47 pm

I got my AirSense 11 about 4 weeks ago replacing my ResMed S9. Man is it quiet! My respiratory therapist and doctor work with me on how to enter the settings, You can set the pressure for what ever range you want. I was running at 7.6 Lbs. so we set it for 7.2 to 8.0. The first problem is there is no setting for a maximum AHI. What I found was it wanted to stay at 7.2 and let my AHI go to 13.0. I have central apnea and my sweet zone is about 1.5 to 3.0. I ended up having move the pressure to 7.6 minimum and it was fine. You do have the option of having a fixed pressure. I do not use the ramp up and I use ResMed Nasal Clouds and chin strap.
The water resevior is terrible. The lid only flips up about 80 degrees. The front wall is higher than the back wall. If you fill the water to the max line the water level is within 1 mm of the top of the back wall. It spills out the back when you close the lid. Fortunately I do not need it that high.
If the pressure is to low, what happens is when you inhale the pressure does not kick up until you are about halfway through the inhale. Raise the pressure 0.2 LBS and it eliminates it.
It is connected to ResMed, my doctor, and respiratory therapist via cell phone data over T-mobile. ResMed pays that. It does have a slot for a SD card. You can check the screen and see what your AHI was last night.
The app will show you AHI average, AHI per hours, hours of use, and leaks. They give a sleep score that is a joke. 80% of the calculation is based on hours of usage. Your AHI only makes up 5% of the score. I used to use Oscar and I am satisfied with the info from the app. My doctor called me said it looks good.
Anyone else have the same experience?

Congrats on the new machine.

The pressure is measured in centimetres of water cmH2O, not pounds. There's quite a difference.
The first problem is there is no setting for a maximum AHI. What I found was it wanted to stay at 7.2 and let my AHI go to 13.0.
No machine has a setting for max AHI. Just to explain - AHI (apnea hypopnea index) is a measure of your respiratory sleep quality. It is the total of apneas plus hypopneas all divided by the hours of sleep: AHI = (Apneas + Hypopneas) / Hours. You want the AHI as low as possible. Below 5 is regarded as "treated" but most people get best results with AHI down around 1 or 2. I don't understand why you would want your AHI to run up to 13 - that would be a poor outcome.

Thanks for posting your impressions of the machine.
* Download Oscar
* Oscar help
* An alternative to Oscar - try SleepHQ

I have no medical training or qualifications. Take my advice for what it's worth.

Resmed AirSense 11 Autoset user checking in here. No issues whatsoever with the device.

I am not troubled by the incomplete feedback because I understand the intent behind the application: The idea is to provide just enough information for the average person to earn 'atta-boy' support. They are merely trying to encourage customers to continue using their CPAP machines. Remember, statistically speaking, at least 50% of Resmed's intended customer base is incapable of dealing with sophisticated, e.g., Oscar-style, data.

Thanks for your review, Bman. One note I wanted to make — raising the pressure on your machine is not a way to treat your central apnea. If there’s a pressure that keeps your AHI around 2 or less, just stick to that.

Unfortunately, the OP has not returned after the TWO posts on Jan. 24.
Possible spammer waiting for an opportunity to insert links to some crap?
