Who has the most number of hours on their machine?
So my wife's S10 machine is about 19000 hours and will be discussing a new machine today with her doctor. We will probably recycle her machine into a travel machine but it makes me wonder how many these machines actually live vs the recommended 15000 hours to replace.
What are the records? Do they have any software limits I am not aware of? We don't want to be traveling and find our backup travel machine suddenly stops working.

The only people promoting replacement at 15,000 hours, sell machines. The manufacturers and the DMEs.

Yea but that does not answer my question. DME aside! How long do people go? What are the most number of hours or do you just wait for it to break?
Also At some point there is no warranty and downtime and ...

Re: Who has the most number of hours on their machine?
I have a family friend who has been on cpap probably 30 years plus....he still has his original machine and it has over 30K hours on it he told me some time ago. It still blows air.
He has other machines available and doesn't take the old dinosaur when traveling....but still uses the old dinosaur. I think mainly as a matter of principle more than anything else. He said it is HUGE compared to what's out there today.
As far as any pre ordained software issues where they just up and die....other than the annoying message that "your machine has exceeded life expectancy for the motor" I don't think there is any software thing built in to it to just up and die.
I usually swap out machines just because newer models come out and I get the "I want new model" itch so I never get really high hour machines. Right now my current model has around 8 K hours on it which is nothing. I already have a spare sitting in the closet. Probably what will happen is I will sell the high hour machine dirt cheap to someone who has a real need and not much money....then I dig out the spare.

Re: Who has the most number of hours on their machine?
My current machine is over six years old and has over 17,000 hours on it and still works just fine. I plan on using it until it dies. I have a backup machine ready to go in case it does die.

Always keep a backup. Even for a new machine.no_more_headaches wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 6:34 pmWhat are the most number of hours or do you just wait for it to break?
I don't worry about a new machine as long as I have a good backup.

Re: Who has the most number of hours on their machine?
There is a handful of posters who use ancient machines--I suspect on principle.
I am not one of them. My previous Airsense 10 was still working at over 5 years
and 17,000 hours before it started skipping data and making noises.
I ordered a new one. They made me wait a bit longer for the Autoset for her.

34,482 !
This is my mom’s spare machine. Between my doctors yanking me around and switching jobs and therefore insurance, I’ve been trying to get my own machine since last July! So, mom let me use her old one. After a thorough (!) cleaning, it’s been good enough to get by on.
But I have my 3rd titration study Thursday and am very hopeful my saga is ending soon.

Re: Who has the most number of hours on their machine?
My old Philips System One Auto CPAP is 12 years old has 25000+ hours on it and I was using it until I replaced it with a brand new Resmed Airsense 10 last fall. It was still working OK but it was getting noisier and it had always been very quiet. I also didn' tfeee it was giving me the same level of therapy as before.
The Airsense is more comfortable to use and I feel better with it with exactly the same pressure settings.

Are insurance companies required to replace your CPAP every five years per the manufacture recommendation?

It used to be that insurance companies would routinely replace after the 5 year mark without any questions but now even medicare will require the machine to be broken and/or have it cost more to fix it than it would to just buy one before they will replace a machine.
Just because some manufacturer says something "should" be replaced doesn't mean the insurance companies have to do anything they don't want to.

Re: Who has the most number of hours on their machine?
Irreparable wear refers to deterioration sustained
from day-to-day usage over time and a specific
event cannot be identified.
I wonder how you prove this? Just say "The humidifier is not working as well as it did when it was new?" Do they inspect it? Sounds complicated.
