AirSense11 Ramp Feature not allowing enough air?

Post by tstuart » Thu Dec 23, 2021 10:02 am

Hope that made sense. I just set up my new AirSense 11 and have the ramp feature enabled. I tested for air delivery before putting on mask by feeling the air coming out of the tubing. It was, at the same level the DME tech said was indicative that it was on. He said the machine turned itself on when you put the mask on. I put the mask on, and immediately felt I was being deprived of air and took it off. I then pushed the "on" button without the mask on. It didn't blow more air out until I pushed the "on" button. is the ramp enabled just not blowing enough air? I am an experienced CPAP user for over 10 years with an AutoSV machine, but new sleep doc and new study apparently show I only need regular CPAP. I have also had a BiPap with a ramp feature in the past, with a full face mask, but never felt the suffocating feeling. I always felt I was getting enough air while ramp mode was in effect. Is this just a matter of needing to get used to a new machine, or is there a known issue with the AirSense ramp feature not delivering enough air? I have been usng nasal pillows for about four months with old AutoSV, so it's not a matter of getting used to nasal pillows instead of full face. Thanks!

The default setting for the ramp starting pressure is 4 cm. That is simply not much air movement especially if someone has been using an ASV machine and the pressures it delivers.
It is a common complaint with a lot of people...that 4 cm just simply doesn't feel like enough air is moving from a comfort aspect. While we won't suffocate....it sure feels like it.

You don't have to use the ramp if you don't want to...or you can actually set the ramp pressure to start at something higher than the 4 cm default setting if you wish.

Awesome, thanks, they didn't show me you could change ramp pressure, just the time. I'll play around with that and I bet it solves the issue!

You will have to go into the clinical setup menu are to change the ramp minimum starting pressure.
So they probably didn't show you that little trick.

Go here and request the provider/clinical manual for your machine and it will explain the little secret handshake for getting into the clinical setup menu area if you don't already know how.

https://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap- ... tup-manual

Instructions are about 2/3 down the page for requesting the manual via an email attachment.
