Do I Need to Revise My Settings?

Post by AcedDublB » Wed Dec 15, 2021 10:48 am

74 year old male diagnosed 6 years ago with severe sleep apnea. I have a PR Dreamstation Auto BiPAP which I have used faithfully every day. I use a Quattro Air FFM. I am a mouth breather and recently started to tape my mouth shut using 3M Micropore tape. My AHI dropped immediately from mid teens to below 2.0

Here are my 7 day averages:

AHI - 1.3
Mask Fit - 83%
Periodic Breathing - 0%
IPAP 90% - 9.8
EPAP 90% - 8.0

My current settings are:

IPAP Max - 12.0
EPAP Min - 8.0
PS Max - 4.0
PS Min - 2.0
Ramp - 10.0
Ramp Start - 6.0

I feel great now with mouth taped close and lowered AHI numbers, actually had a 0.0 one night but wondering whether I should revise any Settings to achieve even better results.

Thank you for any opinions and reasons why an adjustment(s) is recommended for my situation.

myself, i wouldn't mess with success. you've had dramatic results in lowering your ahi. and you feel better in the process.

i call that a win all the way 'round!
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

You are "feeling great" with low AHI numbers...Why would you want to mess with it?

My previous settings were 20 and 12 and I reduced them today to 12 and 8 so I was wondering whether that was the proper thing to do or should I have left them at 20 and 12.

What were you trying to accomplish? What made you think your pressures needed changing?

You know my old saying....if it ain't broke don't go trying to fix it.
I would be thrilled with your results.

Most important things...sleeping good, feeling good and taking care of the apneas....and you have accomplished all those goals.

Your settings work for you and I don't see you needing more pressure....it doesn't appear to go near your max now.
Increasing the max won't do a thing if you never go to 12 anyway.

My suggestion...leave well enough alone and pat yourself on the back.
