Looking for advise regarding current recall- replacement unit

Post by TheRealMacGyver » Sat Dec 04, 2021 11:08 am

Hello, I looked and found some info here, along with other sources, and now I am officially overloaded with info! So, forgive me if I ask a repeated question. I haven’t been on here in a while.

So, I am late to the party and just learned of this 2 days ago. I have 2 System One units affected and registered for recall. I feel like I want to get a new system asap just to be safe. As I look here it seems like the latest and greatest is the AirSense 11, however this is not very available and I am seeing $1400 !!!!! I also see the AirSense 10 is part of the recall (or some models are). So I guess that would leave Resmed as the next best thing?

Then there is the question about my RX, which I do have but it is very old. Will anyone even honor that?

So other questions:

1. How long for recall to complete? I am hearing up to 2 years!
2. Do we have a top 5 list of machines?
3. Are they going to send a replacement unit or a part/gasket that I have to replace?

https://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic/t183 ... et495.html

Get this one if cpap/apap is what you currently use...and make a decision fast...it won't last long.

If you use some sort of bilevel machine for specific special issues...need to know more information

Unknown...depends on what it says and did it have any sort of expiration date.

Again unknown....originally a year was mentioned but I thought that was an overly optimistic comment.

2. Do we have a top 5 list of machines?
A lot is going to depend on what kind of machine is needed because some manufacturers don't make all the various models.
So you start with what kind of machine you are currently using...regular cpap or a different high end specialty model?

3. Are they going to send a replacement unit or a part/gasket that I have to replace?
They are sending entire units and not parts where you have to fix it yourself.
Some people are getting an upgrade to the DreamStation 2 models.
Some people may get a refurbished unit.
Seems like System One users are just getting new DreamStation 2 models but as more old machines get returned and refurbished that might change.

where are you seeing airsense 10 as part of the recall? they aren't made by philips and philips is the brand on recall.

oh and i second pugsy's recommendation of the machine shown in her link. (if it's still there.) lsat is well known here and has had many satisfied customers here on the forum.

good luck!

I totally missed this comment.
Where did you see that ResMed was included in the Philips recall?

Now ResMed does have a problem with their foam and Ozone cleaner device use but it is a totally separate issue than what the Philips recall from foam problems is about.

With ResMed...ResMed says use of the ozone cleaning devices will damage their foam and void your warranty but it doesn't go so far as to tell people that the foam in their machines could maybe do serious injury. Just says Ozone can hurt the foam in the machine.

With Phillips recall they are saying there is a problem potential foam deterioration causing serious injury no matter whether you ever used the ozone device or not.

ResMed machines are NOT part of any recall.

No, it's not, that's a product of a totally different company.

Resmed has always been superior. The Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset.

i've gotten into the habit of hitting the preview button before i post, just to make sure it's there before i hit submit.

sometimes, even now, i get into a hurry and forget to submit it.

What may have happened when someone hits the submit button there's a little pop up that comes up when someone has posted something that wasn't there when you started your reply...that little pop up says something like "someone has posted something that you haven't read yet....do you still want to submit your post"....if you don't click on "submit" a second time the post never gets posted. So when in a hurry you might miss that little note and not click submit again and the end result is your post just goes "poof".

OH! i've had that happen more than i'd like to admit.

so i try to be extra careful these days. when i'm in here, like right now, i'll post this rely. then open a new tab for the next batch of messages. then close the current one. used to be i'd go really fast and not see i didn't post.

and don't get me started on the "you can't post another message this soon" message!

You do know that the time limit is one minute....but I admit that it sure is a really long minute.
BTW....that goes for PMs as well. I have seen it more for PMs than posts on the forum when my reply in the PM is very brief and doesn't take long to compose.

We did the one minute limitation back when we had the spam bot attacks in an effort to slow down the number of posts we had to fight. Probably not needed now but no one ever went back to the old time limit to change it.

Thanks that does make me feel a little better, I usually am pretty “techy” and can navigate my way around the web! I thought I posted and moved on.

I think in that missing post I said something about betting in the future we will see a flooded used market of refurbished Phillips CPAPs at really cheap prices!

oh gawd i hope not. that will just make things much harder on the folk here trying to help others out.

or maybe they will flood other than first world markets with that crap?

i shudder to think of it.

yeah, i knew it was "just a minute" but it always seems to catch me with one foot out the door.

no, i didn't know that was a result of the spambots. in that case, it's easier to put up with.

Thanks again everyone. I just bought the one Pugsy recommended in the second post. Looks like even new models are becoming hard to get from what I have seen.

A data point on the recall: I did not register until August 17. I received notification this morning that they have just shipped me a replacement machine.

Since I already bought a replacement on my own dime, I don't need this; does anyone have a suggestion about the best way to identify people who I might donate the new unit to?
