Pounding heart can’t breathe?

Post by Kimberley » Thu Nov 25, 2021 12:45 am

Hi group!
Question: Is it normal that after a few months of CPAP suddenly NOW I wake up after two hours with my heart pounding and feeling like I can’t breathe?
I have an airsense 10 for her, f10 full face for mouth breather, I was started at APAP 4-18 and eventually brought down to CPAP 9. When this started I tried APAP 6-9 and it was better for a few nights but then it happened again. EPR 3. AHI always under 2.
Some nights are fine but a few times I’ve woken up after 2 hours suffocating with a pounding heart. (Not arrhythmia)
I don’t feel claustrophobic or anxious when I wear the mask and my machine says that my numbers are really good.
I don’t know how to use Oscar, my machine does not have a chip but I do have a random one I got from Best Buy that I’m afraid to put in the machine because I don’t want to screw something up in it and have it no longer work.
I’ve seen posts on newbie claustrophobia, is that still valid after a few months of use?
If it’s normal I’ll just power through but it’s kinda scary.
I called the Dr and he prescribed a home sleep study, just waiting on the call, but was hoping to hear from experienced CPAPers if this was normal and to be expected..?
I’m a bit afraid to go to bed.
I’ve had severe apnea for over 20 years but have always used a MAD, however it’s not longer effective and I’ve had to start using a CPAP.
I’m really not all that adverse to it so I’d be surprised if it was anxiety.
Sleeping without a CPAP is not an option my apnea is really bad.
I have spoken to the Dr and am waiting but until then I’m hoping that my fears are exaggerated ..?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

You can't hurt anything by putting the SD card in the machine. What is the capacity (GB) of your card? Which model machine do you have?

As you might know from reading here, problems can be hard to diagnose without using OSCAR.

Hi! Thank you for your response!
I have a Resmed Airsense 10, vents are not blocked and I have a 16GB card. I’m not tech savvy whatsoever lol so I just put the card in and then…?

Sleep.

The SD card has to be in the cpap machine all night while using the machine to get the detailed data available.....if your machine records detailed data.

Which AirSense 10 is it? full model name is on the face of the machine lower right.

There are 4 choices.
1...CPAP
2...Elite
3...AutoSet
4...AutoSet for Her.

Hope it isn't the CPAP model because that machine only records summary numbers only. You could still use OSCAR and review the summary numbers but none of the detailed graphs would be available.

Hi,
In your original post you mentioned that your heart pounding was “not arrhythmia”.
How did you determine that?

I was wondering that as well.

Do you feel like you need more air which might be causing a mild panic attack? That very ting happens to me when I lower my pressure too far. Last night I started at 12 and had to raise it to 13 to avoid the feeling of needing more air.
