AirMini with Dreamwear Nasal Mask

Post by NoVaMAG » Wed Aug 25, 2021 1:11 pm

I know the AirMini is built to only work with three of the ResMed masks, but I have seen an adapter and heard it can work with other masks. Can anyone confirm this and what I would need? I think there is a hose adapter on Amazon but which hose should I use? I currently use the AirSense 10, the heated hose and the Dreamwear, but I want the AirMini for travel and as a backup.

Thanks!

It will not work with a heated hose. It will work with hoses that have the standard 22 mm connector. Most hoses use this standard connector.

Thank you!! What's the best 'travel' hose to use? Looking for smallest, easiest to pack, etc.

I travel with a six-foot slim (two basic sizes: standard and slim) hose. They also make four-foot hoses, but that might be too short in some hotels. Anyway, some slack is needed to avoid pull on the mask. https://www.cpap.com/search?query=slimline%20hose

Whatever you do, allow time to sleep with new stuff at home first. You don't want to be on a trip and discover unforeseen challenges.

When I travel, I use my AirMini with my regular (very much preferred!) mask, the Bleep. Honestly, after using the Bleep for so long, I don't know that I could sleep with anything else!

And I definitely agree with CG, try it all out at home first to be sure your setup works well for you. I did end up getting the mount system for the options.

I finally purchased the airmini and I went ahead and got the full package including hose and AirFit™ N30 Nasal Mask. I was able to price match the package, so basically got the mask for free. So now I'm not 100% what i need to buy to be able to use my dreamwear nasal mask. I'm guessing the adapter, but will it work with the resmed hose? Is the airmini hose a travel hose, i.e. smaller diameter and extra flexible for the case?

Thanks!!

The hose that is typlically used/supplied with the AirMini is a slim hose. It is slim (15mm) and very flexible. As linked above, you can get an adapter that allows you to connect a standard hose to the AirMini ResMed connection. The downside to this is that you cannot take advantage of the HumidX humidification cartridges that work with the AirMini designed masks. If you don't need that, then that's not an issue for you. To my knowledge there is no adapter that allows you to use the HumidX with other masks/tubes. However, I guess you could add something like: https://www.cpap.com/productpage/heat-m ... hange-unit

I think the trick with the waterless humidification is that it needs to be relatively close to the outlet area of the mask (nasal pillows, etc). With the dreamwear, and others like it, the inlet of the mask is already close to the limit of 6-12 inches, when you add up all the side "tubing" of the mask to get up to the inlet at the top of the head.

Thanks! For limited travel, I'm thinking I can go without the humidification. I just ordered the adaptor and a slimline tube. I wasn't sure if the airmini tube would work with the adaptor and my Dreamwear mask. Worse case, i have an extra tube I suppose.

I have the air mini, a Dreamwear mask and a travel small hose. And it sounds like an aircraft carrier when I turn it on. The loud whooshing sound is coming from the mask. I have the heated hose and the air bipap machine and it’s near silent. I checked all the connectors. What should I try to lower the noise level??

Did you ever figure the noise on your headgear? I just got my airmini with the adapter so I can use my own headgear (dreamwear pillows), the noise coming off the elbow that connects to my headgear is awful. The airmini itself imho is quiet but that elbow noise...jeeez.
