I have always taken my immunity for granted.
Not so much now . . .
Besides cancer, and chemo, various things can impact your immunity.
Even old age, and some of the many things that can afflict us.
So, wash your hands, wear your mask, get your shots, and stay away from crowds.
The world is a dangerous place; and tiny bad things are out to get you.
And big bad things as well--the bigger, the badder.

The cancer treatment must be so hard on your system. I'm glad to hear you've gotten all your shots. :D

I got my flu shot already and scheduled my COVID booster for tomorrow but had to postpone it. My second shingles shot yesterday really knocked me over. I've never had a significant reaction to a vaccine before. Perhaps it was because I was so late getting it that it was so bad? I was sure I had gotten both doses last fall, but my healthcare system flagged me as overdue for my second shot. I searched my patient portal and could find no record I had gotten shot number two. But in my mind I think I asked for it at an appointment and got it. I decided better safe than sorry and got it yesterday. I was awake all night with chills, muscle pain, and fever. I was shaking so hard I couldn't sleep, but couldn't imagine being bale to walk up and down the stairs to get some Advil. Around 2AM I finally managed to go get the Advil. That helped. I postponed my COVID booster until Monday.

Vaccine reactions are unpleasant but nothing compared to the actual disease, IMHO. I think that we, as a society, have become kind of spoiled because vaccines have nearly eliminated so many nasty diseases. We don't remember what it was like to suffer those diseases and live in fear of them the way people did in the past.

My wife and I got our flu shots at the same time, a couple weeks ago. Interestingly, she said it was the most painful flu shot she had gotten, whereas I didn't even feel the needle. Pure chance, hit a nerve or something in her and missed everything for me.

I think all vaccine shots are intramuscular so a theory on rare side effects is the rare case when a vein is hit and the medicine goes straight into the blood rather than in the muscle. A theory I heard and seems logical and very interesting.

Thanks, that's helpful. My daughter was just asking about an inexperienced technician being more likely to a nerve when giving a vaccine, because she had the nerve thing happen to her. I told her I thought it was pure chance, not the technician.

Some have hypothesized that the few cases of blood clots in those receiving the Astra-Zeneca COVID-19 vaccine were due to improper injection techniques. The vaccine went directly into a blood vessel. https://www.connexionfrance.com/French- ... eca-issues

Onward60, I had the exact same experience with the second shingles shot. Fever, pain, and chills that had my teeth chattering and my body shuddering. Over in 24 hours, but what a ride. I would sure hate to have shingles, though, so no regrets.

It does seem to be subsiding already for me, too, thankfully. :D

that's why you're *supposed* to pull back on the syringe before doing an IM, to see if you get blood...
