on CPAP for 5months, still wake up exhausted ???

Post by jsg1206 » Fri Oct 08, 2021 7:41 am

In February diagnosed with "moderate" OSA AHI 15.6
Started CPAP in May
Resmed Airsense 10 Auto, pressure range 8 - 15
wear full face mask Airtouch F20

My compliance has been good and I consistently get scores of "100" per the ResMed MyAir app
last night 7hrs, score 100, AHI 1.2, seems like I sleep pretty soundly
but in the morning like today / now I am completely exhausted and physically depleted, feel horrible, wiped out, like I was struggling to breath all night
I had an oxygen saturation sleep test done a few weeks ago and that was fine >90% the entire night

I have follow-up appt. with sleep doctor later this month, but I am ready to give up on CPAP, I have felt worse over these past 5months
depressing

Anyone else experience this ?

No, but...

1) MyAir's good for nothing

2) DO use Oscar and post here so we can see all details (leave out the calendar plse) and help you interpret results and if necessary tweak whatever needs doing

Oscar's 'the' app to use now for everyone - best in the world (as far as we know), very comprehensive, etc.

In terms of answering your question about waking up exhausted....it seems to happen to some people as we see people come here complaining of not feeling the good numbers.
You aren't alone.

Often more detective work is needed to try to isolate the cause if possible.

AHI all by itself doesn't guarantee feeling the good numbers. There's much more to good restorative sleep than just a set of numbers.

So some questions to see what else might be a factor.

1. How many hours of sleep are you averaging?
2. Are those hours of sleep fragmented by a lot of wake ups?
3. Do you take any medications of any kind? Even OTC? If so, what?
4 Any other physical or mental health issues that could be impacting how you feel?

As they tell you, you may not be reaching deep sleep for long periods of time. In my case, it took me a year and a half to be sure that I was used to it and felt comfortable sleeping with a mask over my nose and face.

I don't like too much that you have such a large range of pressure, 8 to 15 cm. Talk to your doctor if your study was 15.6 AHI you may require less range, something between 9 and 12.5 cm could work.

You have to wait another year to get used to everything, be sure that the EPR you use is the best, the humidification the same.

You don't have oxygenation problems, because if you had, your head will hurt on the top.

Good luck you are doing fine

So, I do have the Oscar app and have uploaded my SD card, but really have no idea how to interpret the data ? I Can post some screenshots here.... My CPAP was prescribed by an ENT doctor after 2 sinus surgeries that I was hoping would cure my snoring, but did not...... after the initial 45days on the CPAP when the original pressure range was 5 - 15 and told him I was even worse then before, basically told me "your AHI is below 1 now, there is nothing wrong with you, I can't help you anymore with your fatigue, maybe you need to see a Psychiatrist" - well, maybe I do, I do struggle with some Mental Health Challenges Anxiety/Depression Was just hoping that CPAP would be the miracle to getting restful sleep at night

Ok here goes nothing,
- screenshot of summary page, October compliance so far has been off, (ex) skipped last night to see if I felt better without it
- Daily summary graphs / data is from Friday night 10/8/21 again where my score was "100" 7hr, AHI .9, etc. and yesterday (Saturday) during the day still felt completely exhausted all day, struggled out of bed, feel like a cast member on the Dawn of the Dead

Like Zonker, I'd like to see your answers to Pugsy's questions (though I see you've mentioned you feel you sleep soundly). And some tips about posting charts:

* include the stuff at the very top, which includes your pressure settings, machine name, etc.

* include all but only these graphs:

Events
Flow rate
Pressure (not mask pressure)
Leaks
Snores
Flow limitations.

And one more question for you. Which better describes how you feel during the day: sleepy (like you want to take a nap) or fatigued (the way flu feels -- not really sleepy but no physical energy).

1. How many hours of sleep are you averaging? at least 8hrs

2. Are those hours of sleep fragmented by a lot of wake ups? maybe 1-2, however i could be waking up more, but just not enough to recognize

3. Do you take any medications of any kind? Even OTC? If so, what? none

4 Any other physical or mental health issues that could be impacting how you feel? yup, struggle with mental health challenges for sure, anxiety/depression (several factors that have contributed: loss of father in March, loss of 2 friends to Covid, and most recently my daughter going off to college "empty nest" syndrome)

number four MAY be it. the only thing, really, that cpap can do is keep your air passages open. that's what cpap is:Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. and we can hope that leads to better sleep.

that may sound negative, but i'm not ready to give up on it yet. let's see some more charts. maybe some tweaks will make things right.

are you reading the whole thread or just what you see as your notifications?

not everyone uses the quote feature in a thread.
