I can not sleep with nasal pillows and also a mask.

Hi,

I have tried to use a CPAP machine since 4 to 5 months ago (a ResMed AirSense 10 model) started with nasal pillows for 3/4 months then switched to a mask.

The mask is eating me up!!!! I can only try for only 10/15 minutes and it's off. I can not sleep. Last nite and two nights ago.....it was "sleep hell". 8 to 9 hours and no sleep.......get up, walk around and no sleep.....for the 8/9 hours.

I tried the nasal pillows for 3/4 months and at least got some sleep but the "events" rate was 25 to 30 events EVERY NIGHT.

So, I don't know what to try. I am a "sleep zombie". No rest, no energy, with anxiety and ...yes...anger. I get really mad.

It blows my mind that some people actually sleep with a mask on for 7,8,9 hours......and even with tiny AHI rates and sleep great.

I don't know what to do. The cpap technician wants to go back to the nasal pillows and my doc.....he has not helped me very much. I think this service (CPAP technicians and docs) sucks.

You're going to have to give us more information to go on if you want help.

Please let us know what machine make and model you are using, and what your settings are.

What nasal pillows did you try? (make and model, please) Did you try only one nasal pillows mask or several?
What "mask" did you use (make and model) and was it a nasal mask or a full face mask? How many such masks did you try?

What is making it hard for you to sleep? discomfort (pain or feeling of suffocating), irritation, leaking, claustrophobia???

sorry you are having so much trouble. something you can try is wearing the mask when NOT in bed and doing other tasks around the house or reading or some such.

your brain is screaming at you right now because it just KNOWS there is an alien on your face trying to gobble you up! you have to convince your brain otherwise. get it used to having the mask on while you distract it with other things.

To add to the two previous responses—finding the right mask can be the hardest part of getting comfortable with PAP. The contours of each face are unique, and what works beautifully for me may be a misery for you. Once you can give us more information, we can try to help you in your quest for the mask that is right for YOU.

Mask liners (Padacheek.com) can soften the feel of plastic (silicone) on your face.
Home made liners can be cut out of an old, clean t-shirt.

unfortunately, the forum software has degraded quite a bit over the last 1- 1 1/2 years. and we can't seem to get the owner to do anything about it.
