ResMed Aircurve 10 ASV BPM Question

Post by photonic » Mon Sep 13, 2021 2:46 pm

Greetings. I have been switched to the ResMed AirCurve 10 ASV machine due to the Phillips recall. I have read all the manuals and know how to access the clinician menu.

It appears this machine does not have an allowed minimal Breaths per minute (BPM) setting. My Phillip did. I found adjusting this in the past to be helpful since I tend to breath slowly and adjusting this setting let me not get hammered by the machine if my breathing slowed down but still in a safe range.

I know the ResMed uses a different algorithm. Can anyone comment on how this machine works with minimal allowed BPM and if I will have any control over it. Any other comments about this are very welcome. Thanks for the help! :D

It has an auto adjusting breath per minute built into the algorithm.
It takes an average over a short period of time (I forget exactly how long but maybe 3 to 5 minutes) when you first turn the machine on (and we presume awake) of normal breathing and computes an "average" and that is what it uses when you don't breathe enough on your own.

I usually tell people to breathe slowly and evenly when they first turn the machine on for a few minutes so that the auto average is on the lower side. If the machine thinks you have a normal lower BPM average then it won't be so quick with the big bursts.

The Resmed just adapts itself to what you're doing.
