Transcend travel CPAP battery life

Post by SarahB » Wed Sep 12, 2018 1:48 am

Looking for users' experience of the Transcend travel CPAP battery life. I have the P8 battery which is supposed to give around 14 to 16 hours of power based on an average pressure of 14. My average pressure has been just under 5 when using this machine and I'm trying to estimate just how much longer I might be able to get out of the battery on this lower setting. It would make a big difference to get three nights out of it instead of two.

I have no experience with the Transcend but there is certainly one way to find out: just try it. Even if someone claimed it worked for them its worth verifying that your setup works the same.

If you're planning to use this for airplane travel, the cabin pressure is set to 10,000 feet which will use somewhat more electricity. The pump will automatically adjust, bu it will use more power, perhaps 10-20%.

Transcend doesn't have a current/pressure chart, but your ResMed would use less than 2/3 the power when going from pressure 12 to 6, so there's a fair chance you could go for three nights on the battery.

Are you sure the pressure really averages 5 on the Transcend - that's a very low pressure. Although many people have it set that low the auto adjust usually brings it up much higher. What is the pressure set to, and what pressure do you see on the ResMed?

Thanks, that's helpful. I use the regular ResMed machine supplied by my clinic at home but bought the Transcend for camping.

I agree that 5 seems a very low pressure. My average ResMed pressure is around 8 or 9 with AHI consistently below 1.0. With the Transcend the AHI is between 2 and 3. As it's an auto machine I assume it would increase the pressure if necessary.

I once asked the suppliers if the lower pressure could be increased to 6 but they didn't think it was necessary since I was getting low AHI scores at less than 6. I don't know whether the low pressure is due to using a different machine or to some difference caused by sleeping outdoors on a different bed/different position from usual. I've just used it for 9 consecutive nights camping and it certainly does the job.
