My husband was diagnosed with OSA a few years ago. He was given a machine and mask, which had a leaking problem because of his full beard and moustache. Without knowledge of this forum and with no useful help from the DME, he returned the CPAP,gave up and had a dental appliance made.
After 30 years together, he told me early this year that I snore, which I vehemently denied until my daughter agreed with him! So, I had sleep studies done and sure enough, I have OSA, too. After first getting a Swift from the same DME, I found this site, learned so much that I didn't know, graduated to a CL2 and taping. Finally, I returned the CPAP and Swift, since my new medical insurance doesn't cover DME. I bought a machine, software and Hybrid, which has been great for me.
I recently managed to convince my husband to try APAP again...I have 2 machines, so I gave him the CL2 and off he went to sleep. My Smart Card told of many mouth-breathing episodes and he refuses to tape. So, he's using the Hybrid until I can order one for him with the new headgear.
The bottom line (finally) is that while he keeps the mask on, it sounds like a wind tunnel in the bedroom. I wake up and creep away to the living room to spend the rest of the night without my machine. I remember earlier posts about accommodating a full beard under the Hybrid, but of course that wasn't really relevant to me at the time. Can someone send me in the right direction?
Thanks for any suggestions or links.
