RESPIRONICS BIPAP® AUTO SV™ AND RESMED AirCurve 10 ASV

Post by Papit » Sat Nov 21, 2015 11:13 pm

Has anyone used both the Respironics PR System One REMstar BiPAP ST and the new ResMed AirCurve 10 ASV? How well have you found them to work with a wireless (wifi) SD card?

Which of the two do you favor and why? My main sleep issue is central apnea with some obstructive, ratio about 2:1 central to obstructive.

I'm up for my two-year re-evaluation ASV sleep test tomorrow and will receive new equipment in a few days. My doc is much more familiar and partial to Respironics, but I've been using ResMed's S9 VPAP Adapt with good results.

Without expressing an opinion on the relative merits of the ResMed v Respironics machines:
Sleepyhead supports the Respironics 960 ASV and (I believe) the current version doesn't support the Aircurve ASV from ResMed. It may be possible that a new version will be made available fairly soon. So sticking with ResMed means sticking with ResScan at least for some time.

Switching to the 960 ASV machine will allow you to continue to collect and review the data from the new machine alongside that of the older machine using Sleepyhead.

If you are comfortable with the way that the ResMed works for you, it is likely you will feel the same way about the new Aircurve machine. There is a small but real possibility that you won't feel the same way with the Respironics machine because of the differences in the algorithms. Most people don't have a problem but a tiny number do.

If your current doctor is familiar with Respironics ASV machines but not with ResMed ones, then it will be a harder row to hoe getting the Aircurve correctly adjusted than for the Respironics. From a parameter point of view, the machines are REALLY different. Both of the sleep doctors that I see are up to speed on ResMed machines and are pretty lost about adjustments for Respironics machine. I pretty much had to figure it out on my own. Fortunately, I have a very good relationship with them both so they are happy with what I am doing and the data I supply.

I just ordered a Resmed Aircurve ASV. I was trying to figure out which machine as well and decided on Resmed as most post seem to praise the Resmed and the Respironics are soon to be replaced by a new DreamStation ASVAuto. I wish the Dreamstation was out now, I may have chosen that over the Resmed but it is not so I went with the most current machine as opposed to one that is at the end of its manufacturing cycle. There are too many conflicting reviews as to which machine is more gentle. I had my study done on a Respironics so after I get the Resmed I think I could make a good comparison as to how they feel.

Also, my DME said it will work with sleepyhead and I can view the info on Resmeds Airview.

Also also, the Bipap ST you mentioned is not an ASV, I assume you're considering the Bipap AutoSV advanced?

Funkdoobiest, I am moving from PR BiPap to Bipap ASV. My current Bipap is set at 15E/20I, but I have lots of centrals, requiring the switch to ASV. The PR Dreamstation AutoSV still has not been released, so rather than chosing the older PR model, I ordered the Resmed Aircurve 10 ASV. I should be picking it up next week. How are you doing with your AC10 ASV? Pressure Settings? ASV or Auto ASV? Are you using Resscan, Sleepyhead or both? Standard or Climateline tubing? Thanks

Welcome back AVI123.

To find the CPAPtalk moderator:

Step one, go into the bathroom.
Step two: Turn on the lights.
Step Three, look in the mirror. That's the CPAP talk moderator

marose1: You need to start your own thread and be a little more concise in your questions. The switch to ASV can be complicated. Are you consulting a sleep doctor about this change or just self-diagnosing?

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Sir, Reply,

Would you believe it that I have not used my CPAP for more than a year? Instead, I take 10 mg of Zolpidem at midnight and put on my chinstrap. I sleep well till 8:30. I have other medical problem to worry about. See my recent post here which should give you a clue:

Sir Noddinoff they used to have a community about sleep apnea over there but it was before 2010:
