snoring on exhale

Post by herefishy » Sat Nov 29, 2014 8:04 am

My husband says, and I often feel it, that I make a snoring sound as I exhale, not inhale. Not with my machine as though I was losing air, but just dozing. Is this possible, and does anybody else feel this?

What do you mean by this?

A properly working CPAP process should prevent most snoring. You could have a mask leak problem or the CPAP pressure may need a little increase?

What does your data say? AHI? Leak? Are you following your treatment with review of SleepyHead analytics?

I get that if I'm not using my machine. It's made me start awake on occasion.

I get this when I fall asleep without my CPAP. Seems to come from exhaling with my mouth open.

I think I have the same thing. It seems to happen just as I start to fall asleep without a mask. I take it to be a change from exhaling through my nose to through my mouth. I don't know if it happens all the time (I seldom fall asleep without my mask, anymore), but it has awakened me occasionally when it did happen.

I take it that this is the same mechanism that prevents me from wearing other than a full face mask. If I fall asleep with only a nasal mask, the air simply exits from my throat into my mouth. I have tried all the methods (and then some) recommended to prevent this (tongue behind teeth, chin straps, tape, etc.) without success. For me, a full face mask is the only comfortable and practical solution.

In my case it's a simple airway collapse caused by relaxing too much...usually while on my back, or reclining, mostly when my head is tipped forward a bit. Nice to recognize triggers...
