Re: What Do You Think of BMI?
The BMI index was never intended to be used for an individual, rather it was intended to be used to assess the overall weight of a population. The proper way to assess the individual is by weight/height and calipers to measure fat in the belly/flank and the back of the arm. The problem is that dietitians have become lazy and use the flawed BMI index.

I showed this to one of the (clinical) dietitian/nutritionalists and she said "Wow! What an asshole!" and wants your address so she can come over and kick your ass.tallblondedude wrote:The problem is that dietitians have become lazy and use the flawed BMI index.

Yes the dietician for my mother hauled in a scale that can be used with a wheelchair to weigh her. There was no discussion about BMI, instead it was about muscle density versus fat because she weighed a lot less then we expected. One can have too much fat and still be at a low BMI if you sit in a wheelchair. Far more people are at that end then the too much muscle end.VVV wrote:Amen Sludge!"Wow! What an asshole!"
The two nutritionists that I know do some serious work.
