The BMI index was never intended to be used for an individual, rather it was intended to be used to assess the overall weight of a population. The proper way to assess the individual is by weight/height and calipers to measure fat in the belly/flank and the back of the arm. The problem is that dietitians have become lazy and use the flawed BMI index.

I showed this to one of the (clinical) dietitian/nutritionalists and she said "Wow! What an asshole!" and wants your address so she can come over and kick your ass.

The two nutritionists that I know do some serious work.
Yes the dietician for my mother hauled in a scale that can be used with a wheelchair to weigh her. There was no discussion about BMI, instead it was about muscle density versus fat because she weighed a lot less then we expected. One can have too much fat and still be at a low BMI if you sit in a wheelchair. Far more people are at that end then the too much muscle end.
