Just Getting to Sleep

Post by Rgbob » Sun Sep 19, 2010 1:43 pm

I use the RESMED VPAP S and the Liberty mask. My pressure is 20/16 and I get I litre O2. My problem has not been getting use to the equipment, I breath very comfortably and have pretty much adjusted the leaks out. However, I'm use to going to sleep within 5 minute of getting to bed and now I'm going a couple of hours before dropping off to sleep and then waking up gasping for breath about 2 hours after I get to sleep. Knowing I have to work the next day, I end up taking off the mask to finish my night out. (The pressure is almost unbearable at this point) I then walk around like a zombie most of the next day.
My question is , will I get through this if I just stick with it or does it sound like a problem I need to talk with my RT about?

Can you try to reconcile this:

with this:

and with this:

If the pressure is unbearable, my suggestion would be to set your parameters way down to something you can sleep with, even if it isn't theraputic, get used to that, and then gradually raise them.

LoQ, Thanks for the reply. I'll see about adjusting the pressure down some over the next couple of nights. I guess the thing that bothers me is how I can tolerate the pressure until I get to a certain stage of sleep and then have a problem.
Thanks again.

Isn't the machine changing the pressure in response to your breathing? Perhaps you require more support during REM and then the pressure is greater. If so, wouldn't that explain why you tolerate it until you get to a certain stage of sleep?

Makes sence to me. I'm going in to discuss this with my RT tomorrow.
Thanks again.
