Rigby,

Thank you your advice. If I do have OSA, I will try to be firm (not my strong point
tho)

I went today to work even tho I feel out of it, they took a look at me and sent me home.

I'm not good at going to see doctor. That being said, what questions should I ask the doc tomorrow?

Thanks
Mike

Mike,

Here is a little experiment I would like you to try. When you go to work or the doc. Imagine that several of us are there with you (we will be in spirit) watching over your shoulder & ready to support you. Act as if we are advising you. You must have a pretty good idea what we are likely to say so use that as a support pillar while in the situations. We are with you!.

If you do follow this simple plan - pls let us know if it helped

Cheers

Went to doc today, said I have mild sleep apnea. If anybody wants a copy let me know, will email for anybody that wants one. Said I'm also suffering from post traumatic stress, from everything my body went through.

I'm planing on getting the 420E. Not sure on the mask I should get. I'm a side sleeper most of the time. I was thinking of starting out with Ultra Mirage Full Face Mask or Breeze . I plan on ordering from cpap.com tomorrow, not waiting on DME.

What do you guys think?

Mike

Mike,

Can you email a copy to dsmarker@bigpond.net.au

Also, re 420E - excellent choice. If you are keen (as I was) to get started, and money isn't an obstacle, go for it. cpap.com shipping is dearer that anyone elses but they use UPS with parcel tracking, I tracked mine thru 5 airports spanning half the globe. As for mask a good start is either the ResMed Activa nasal or the ResMed Mirage fullface. I use both & like them very much. I probablt lean toward the fullface mask but that is because it fits my dial very well.

The diagnosis you describe sounds reasonable. Step 1 is to get good air into you & step 2 is to get you 100% back in circulation.

Cheers

DSM,

Sent you a copy of the sleep test, let me know what you think. I'm going to take your advice and start off with a ff (Ultra Mirage Full Face Mask). I plan on ordering from cpap.com. But how do they determine the size that I would need?

THanks
Mike

Make sure you also get the soft ware so you can keep an eye on what is going on. I think it may already come with that particular machine, but just make sure.

I too have that particular full face ,and and it is great.

Hopefully I'll get some answers soon. I'll keep you guys posted, see the doc tomorrow and then neurologist a week from now.

Mike,
I read the studies. Seems you are in good hands, I gather it was a quite detailed effort on their part.

The 'mild' OSA can still be guilty of a fair portion of the tiredness etc:

What ever you do, keep your self active & get that CPAP machine asap.

Cheers

I'm going to order the cpap machine today and mask. Will order the software also. I'm trying to keep active, but the exhaustion makes that hard. Once I get the cpap start to feel a bit better. I will start my running again, I miss the exercising.

On the script my doc wrote 9cms. Is that is lowest setting I will need? Should I
consider the Remstar's cflex feature over the 420E?

I now have some answers and can do what I need to get better.

Mike

Sizing of mask

Post by dsm » Wed Jul 20, 2005 5:56 am

Mike,

The people at cpap.com will ask you to take some measurements - the process is easy.

The 420E is a good choice as is the RemStar Auto (c-flex is good but not essential) Ramp is more useful.

Can you believe that I used my RemStar for 7 nights before I woke up to the fact that I wasn't using Ramp when I thought I was !. Ramp is great once you know how to use it. Interestingly I have upped the starting pressure to 8 because at 6 I can't even tell if the machine is on.

I am reasonably confident you will like the mask. Can you trial a clinic one 1st ?

Cheers

Mike,
Read your story and all I can say is, thank God you're alive and doing as well as you are. I hope you improve day by day. And like many others have said, we are all here behind you for support.

Now regarding the machine, I, too, was uncertain as to what machine to get. My insurance is buying me one and I put a thread topic out last week or so about which machine to get. On this site, there is a very learned and wise woman who never ceases to amaze all of us with her knowledge and her kindness. She replied to my thread with some very interesting and informative information bacsically about the two machines you have mentioned getting, the 420E and the Remstar Auto with C-Flex. I am going to insert the link to that thread. Her name is RestedGal, so look for her post when you get to the page. I hope that helps you decide (click below). It will also provide you with information regarding the card readers and software to go along with the two machines.

viewtopic.php?t=3687&highlight=card+reader

I decided on the Remstar Auto with C-Flex for a couple of reasons. One is that the 420E does not have C-Flex. And although you and I are on somewhat of a low pressure comparitively to others (I am at 10), and we may not need the help on exhalation that C-Flex provides, you never know how/if your condition will change. Also, it is also said to make people more compliant with therapy and is proven to increase your sleep time something like one hour and 45 mins per night. Plus, you have the ability to turn on and off the auto and C-flex options. And if you purchase the Encore software and card reader, you can monitor your nightly goings on.

I wish you the best of luck. Hope the link helps you to answer a few of your questions. I'm sure at one point on this site you will cross paths with RestedGal. She is wonderful.

Best of luck and continued improvement.

DSM,

Not sure if I can try one out locally. I would like to started with cpap sooner rather than later. As I don't know how long it will take for the local DME to visit me. Plus I rather not deal with DME, if I can help it.

Good thing you you caught that. I know everybody is different, but is hard for you breath against 8cm?

Thanks
Mike

Sleepless on LI,

I thank God every night, I'm very lucky to be here. I read the comments from your link and few others. I'm leaning towards 420E. I remember not having a problem exhaling. I agree that RestedGal is very helpful and knowledgeable.

thank you for help and support,

Mike
