You do not know me or I know you... but it was clear from the first that you are the heart and soul of this board.

Prayers sent your way.
We took care of both of my wifes grandmothers. Both had alzheimer's which is well you know - terrible. Now it looks like her mother will be dx'd.
God Bless.

Re: OT: Heads up on my personal issues
Putting your mother in a care facility is the best thing you could do. My brother insisted on taking care of his wife by his self, and ended up letting his own health go down during the process. We lost her in the spring of 2013 and then lost him around labor day of the same year. He had gone outside to work on the garden, and they found him laying in the yard. It looked like he had lain there for two or three days before he was found. My wife and I made a pact that if either of us started having that kind of problems we would arrange for a placement in a care facility. Take care of your self and keep reminding your self that you have done the best thing for your mother. Take good care of your dog, and hope he has a speedy recovery.

My mother in law made my husband promise, when he was 16,
to never put her in "one of those places".
Of course, where she came from, they were horrible places.

Sigh.
If it's not one thing it's a dozen things.
My mom tried to get out of bed without assistance last evening and fell. Broke her femur right above the knee joint. Crap.
She had to be transferred to the big city hospital late last night and had surgery this morning.
She's out of surgery but a long road ahead. It was the same leg that she has a failed knee replacement in.
Doc says at her age and general health condition she's not a candidate for a redo of the knee and it's iffy how well she will do with rehab on the femur thing.
She told the doc that she got in a fight with another resident.
Refuses to admit she screwed up.
Par for the course with her.
She doesn't really know where she is right now....that's nothing new.

I can't believe Cpap is giving you even half the energy you are obviously using - maybe you should give classes for the rest of us!

Re: OT: Heads up on my personal issues

I meet my ass coming in the front door about an hour after I come home.
My butt is sure dragging.
I am too old for this crap. It rained yesterday and that always causes more back pain for me. Last night would have been bad even without my mom's accident. It will be an early to bed night for me tonight. I am so tired I can't think straight.
I wish I could give the cpap the credit but if truth be known....it's sheer bullheadedness getting me through all this house clearing out stuff. My cpap therapy has been dialed in for years now.
That old woman never threw anything out. I am finding crap that is 20 or 30 years old.
I have NOT found a very important (to me anyway) group of very old pictures and I haven't found the car title either.
Then there is the nightmare with my lazy ass white trash niece....another long story.
On the good news front...Toby...the dog with the snake bite is doing pretty good. The wound is very slowly healing and granulating in.
Yesterday he got into the bathroom and the door got shut (I wasn't home) and he destroyed the door casing in the bathroom trying to get out. So now I have to fix that before hubby gets home. My fault for leaving him out and not locking him up in the laundry room.

Re: OT: Heads up on my personal issues
When I was a kid I read a book about a monkey called Toby (can't remember if it was Kipling, or ??) who did not have a good end... but when my uncle married a Toby I was so happy

I believe that to be the vernacular for "strong resilience."
Do you have the other half of this amulet?
Sounds a lot like many of us here at the zoo.

Sorry to hear about the accident. May all go as well as it can.
Thanks for dignifying us by keeping us in the loop.

Re: OT: Heads up on my personal issues
Pugsy, my heart goes out to you. I went through this with my mother, and it was the most difficult thing in the world.
I work with families going through this every day in my professional life, sometimes with hostile siblings that fight each other because they can't take it out on the parents. There is no choice to but to survive through it. Wishing you strength for the journey and hugs for those moments when strength falters.

Re: OT: Heads up on my personal issues
I'm so sorry Pugsy.
We lost my mum to dementia in 2018. It's a long, hard road. I'm praying for peace for you and your mother. It's healthy and good that you can see the humor in the situation. I have lots of fond and funny memories of my mum's years in care. I did everything I could to make her comfortable and happy and was privileged to be at her bedside, holding her hand when she breathed her last. I know she is now with Jesus, and that her mind and body are perfect.
