Use ASV machine as CPAP?

Post by janiedog » Thu Mar 16, 2023 3:34 pm

Hello! Newly diagnosed, first time on this site. My husband used his Phillips Respironics DreamStation BiPAP autoSV machine (DSX900S11F) until recently and no longer needs it. I just completed my first sleep study and was diagnosed as needing a CPAP. They tell me that I cannot use his machine (which is brand new thanks to the recall), but I saw post from 2012 that suggested the settings could be modified to effectively shut off the ASV function. I read that making the Min and Max EPAP the same number, and setting Min and Max PS both to zero, is what I would need to do. Thoughts? Thanks!

Those settings would do it BUT I don't think the machine will let you do it. I think when you try to make those changes the machine won't offer the needed options.

Give it a try and see what happens.

I think I've cracked the code and modified machine settings. I'll let you know how it goes!
P.S. My husband lost 100 lbs and his recent sleep study findings indicate no apnea. Yay him! Now we're addressing my snoring. 8)

good on you (and him!) for doing the sleep study follow up. so many folk assume that just losing weight will cure apnea without bothering to do the test.
