OT: forum error msg on search

Post by zonker » Sun Mar 12, 2023 11:43 am

when trying a search on a forum members post, i get-
"Sorry but you cannot use search at this time. The server has high load. Please try again later."

hope this is temporary.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

My understanding, based on what I've witnessed at restaurants in California anyway, is that it's usually best for servers not to load things or search for things whenever they're high. And it isn't always temporary.

Hope that helps.

Something broke in the forum software. Not the first time and won't be the last and you have been around here long enough to know not to go holding your breath waiting on a fix.

This doesn't bug me all that much because I wonder what will break next. Past history tells me that things usually get worse before anyone does anything to fix it.

So....what will break next????

Shall I call some of my AI Bot friends to call a flash mob to orchestrate a pressure test?

When a site runs slow and clunky on a Sunday, I usually just assume some sort of maintenance by the Oompa Loompas must be going on underground somewhere.

yes, but i'm just paranoid enough to wonder if it's just ME or does it happen to others.

when a forum member with just a handful of posts starts a new thread, i'm curious if they have posted something in the past that will shed light on their current problems, is all.

it's not the end of the world.

but boy it would be nice if they would spend a little money on the upkeep of the forum.

It's not just you.
I checked it when you first posted and then later I checked it again before I posted.

And yes I do understand the usefulness of that feature when dealing with newbies who don't bother to read the "Please read before posting" thread and they go posting a gazillion separate threads and questions but you know what I do when people do that???? I just don't bother because they aren't following directions and if they can't help us help them then I shrug my shoulders and move on. Until my crystal ball gets out of the repair shop....I just don't often try to rely on my own memory anymore. I don't have the time or energy or quite frankly, the inclination to make more work for myself.
I just can't deal with it like I used to.

I do sometimes click on the username then click on "search user's posts," which brings up all earlier posts by the poster. I mean, except when I'm lazy, which is most of the time.

You do good work, Pugsy, and put up with a lot. Thank you for all you do and have done and will do.

And thank you, Zonker, for being Zonker. We don't pay you enough. But we do donate to the Kind-Hearted-Welcomers' Institute in your name every year.

Then obviously you need to report stuff more often so that it all gets fixed right away!

I wish we all had that gift.

But I refuse to be jealous and hate you for your being the only one that the fixers always listen to.

My parents, sibling, wife, workmates, friends, fans, and acquaintances have never found a solution to the headaches I've caused them over the years. But please don't let that discourage you in your broken, error-message-filled search for an answer to that for you.

I would light a candle, but all I can find are LEDs and a glow stick.
Will an incense cone help?
