WIFI, or remote communication risk potenial.
WIFI, or remote communication risk potenial.
We all know that these machines have the ability to send data to (Dr., clinic, manufacturer, GOVT" How do we know, and/or how hard would it be to add a microphone and/or camera in that unit?
Re: WIFI, or remote communication risk potenial.
Why????
What are you so afraid of?

Just because one is paranoid does not mean they are not out to get you.

Probably about the same as putting gps on your new car and tracking your every move.
But seriously- I put a sticky on my laptop camera and get pissed when companies sell my data so i get your concern.

Re: WIFI, or remote communication risk potenial.
The CPAP sends data to the Resmed Cloud..ONLY.....It sits there until the DME or Doctor retrieves it. That can only be done using your machine's serial number. What possible use would anyone have with your sleep data? No one would buy a machine that had the ability to watch or listen to you.

Re: WIFI, or remote communication risk potenial.
Like most people, I choose to carry around a device with a double-sided set of cameras, an array of sensitive microphones, and a GPS tracker in my pocket all day long, just to make things easier for the feds if they ever get curious. It's called a phone. So I stopped worrying about my illusions of privacy and hung up my tin foil hat way back in the early 90s.
Hey, just me.
Hey, just me.

The fact that you asked this, and how you asked it, demontates you don't have the technical background to discuss it intelligently.

Although, yesterday Hey Google told me that we both really should be more careful what we talk about around Alexa.
My security doorbell disagreed.
Which is significant, since it usually just chimes in.

Re: WIFI, or remote communication risk potenial.
Yesterday I spoke to two people who thought they were being watched and bugged. They could be correct, or they could be paranoid, I have no idea at this point which. I did check, and it's not a full moon. And here is number 3.
This is the least plausible of the 3. What possible use would there be to add a camera and a microphone to millions of CPAP units sold every year? Who would have the time to watch or listen in to try to find useful information and do anything with it??? Amazon is in the business of selling products and information, so it makes sense for Amazon Alexa to do that. Likewise social media platforms are "free" because they sell data about our interest and purchases. What kind of data would anyone expect to get from two people sleeping in the room? Would anyone want videos of a fat middle-aged woman padding around the bedroom in a very unsexy nightie or sleeping with an ugly mask on her face?
While it's true that "just because you are paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you", this one has me scratching my head. I did find myself wondering if either of the people I was speaking to yesterday might be showing early signs of dementia, and maybe that's something to consider for you too.

Re: WIFI, or remote communication risk potenial.
Although I make jokes about almost everything, I consider the OP's question to be a perfectly valid one.
There is something particularly intimate about a device one sets on one's nightstand, and the idea of it containing a modem easily weirds people out.
Why, haven't many members of this very forum recommended disabling the modem, if for no other reason than fearing a doc or company somewhere might learn their AHI, or whatever? Oh, heavens! Lions and tigers and bears!
We can't expect every poster here to be a technological whiz-bang. I know I'm not one. We help newbies. And each other. Preferably without insult.
There are no stupid questions here. Only stupid answers. Usually mine. Or something like that.

Very refreshing.
Thanks. It renews my faith in mankind.
I know conspiracy theories are all the rage now but I feel like those with legal access to my data are obliged to follow HIPAA laws. Anyone else who might want my sleep data can have it with my personally identifiable information retracted.
It’s a valid question.
But yeah that mobile will provide far more data to be concerned about.
