Going To Bed With Countess Walewska Has Its Pitfalls..

Post by GearChange » Sat Sep 17, 2022 10:59 pm

Like most people with good taste, I like a shot (or three) of vodka every now and then. I like mine kept in the freezer set to -4F (that's -20C for Metric people), when vodka thickens in the bottle and pours more like sweet syrup than vodka and my second favorite brand next to Grey Goose, is Countess Walewska Premium. Slightly less expensive than the Grey Goose but with almost the same mellow taste and intensity.
If you have not tried it yet, I highly recommend that you do but watch your sleep after and definitely don't go over 2, maybe three shots at the most on a full stomach...definitely not on an empty belly.
So a few nights ago we had some friends over for dinner and naturally I opened a bottle of each and before I knew, both bottles were almost empty and the guests were leaving (another strange phenomenon that good vodka creates. Its called amnesia). In my drunken state I must have remembered to wear my pap machine and turn on the supplemental oxygen, at 2l.min and thank heavens that I did.
As you can see my sleep was miserable with my AHI going up into stratosphere at over 34  My apnea episodes are certainly very colorful and span the entire range of different kinds that night, from your regular run-off-the-mill Hypopnea to Clear Airway and Obstructive, apnea episodes that I never normally even have.
My sleep is all over the place and my ASV machine is going nuts trying to keep a tab on everything that is happening, clearly without much success at reducing the events that night.

Thankfully I don't remember much of the sleep with Countess Walewska that night Hangover is also minimal the next day, if any.
This next chart is a couple of days later when I have sobered up. It has been my new normal pattern since a few months back, when we moved to the west coast.

Conclusion:
Alcohol has a severe impact on my apneatic condition and I am certain that I am not alone.
Have you ever recorded your sleep while drunk? Don't be shy and let us know what happened to your sleep with too much alcohol in your system.

Even though I have had extensive experience with the use and functionality of several types of different PAP machines,no information in my posts should be put in practice unless cleared by your own medical practitioner first.

For anyone with moderate-to-severe OSA, I consider any substance that sedates or that depresses the nervous system to be life-threatening when taken near time for bed.
The people who confuse "entomology" and "etymology" really bug me beyond words.

It really is, absolutely.
I don't even have OSA, yet the episodes of OSA while drunk, are through the roof that night.

Drinking quality products should take the place of drinking to excess.
That way we can enjoy it fully without the direst consequences.

If I were fancy enough to own a liquor cabinet (instead of just a half shelf high up in the kitchen), I think I'd like that engraved on a plaque hung on the front of it.

is that so you can at least get SOME exercise?
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

I'm not much of a drinker; had my first (and last) hangover at 43--in Ukraine.
Home-made wine fermented from rose petals--not tea roses!
"Language barrier"--they kept filling my glass, even though I only wanted a little.

I am a social drinker with no in-person social life during COVID, so high up in a cabinet shelf in the kitchen keeps it out of the way until we start having people over in person again.

But I admit that getting the flu shot and the bivalent booster last week during high pollen sure destroyed my exercise program for several days!

that bivalent booster! have had no reactions to the first three, but that bivalent kicked me in the arse. twenty hours after i'd had the injection, i had the best sleep i've had in years. only woke up once during the night.

<sigh> can i haz bivalent every night?
