Checking companies calling back about ResMed machines

Post by AfibApnea » Wed Oct 06, 2021 10:06 am

I'm starting to get calls from companies who previously (e.g., 2 days ago) claimed to not have new machines, say they now have "one" (ResMed AirCurve 10 ASV) available.

One company, who listed on its website that it sometimes repackaged a unit to "save on shipping charges" (free to customer) I'd rejected.

No companies I've searched are registered with the Better Business Bureau. (Better Business Bureau doesn't seem as popular as it was decades ago. I would have thought when large events like recalls happen that govt institutions might have a central list to check with.)

What other ways are there of ensuring that a claim (to have a NEW machine) is legitimate, and
what other ways are there, on the phone, of checking that when talking to the business in question?

When I receive the machine, what can/should I check? And if something seems amiss, by law can I immediately return it for a full refund?

Are there warranties on ResMed AirCurve 10 ASV; for how long; and who is the warranty with?

Thanks

ResMed itself provides a 2 year warranty on all new machines.

You can read it on the resmed website.

Will let others answer the other questions. No time right now,

When you ask how to know over the phone if it is new, the only possible way would be a smartphone doing a live Zoom with them (or other video app), and them showing you that the machine’s screen shows zero machine hours.

So original packaging and zero machine hours are the definitive indication of a new machine?

Wellllll.......I go by run hours on the machine and don't necessarily put all that much faith in "appears to be original packaging" because I can box up a machine and make it all look like original packaging.
Not saying DMEs/retailers will do that but it isn't hard to do. Just a little bit of extra work...but then most sellers don't want to do the extra work.

Run hours per the machine's LCD screen can't be screwed with except at factory level.

BBB no longer has the stellar reputation it enjoyed several decades ago.
Too many people have been burned by recommendations
that might have been obtained under questionable circumstances.
At least that was the rumor . . .

Does anyone know what the terms of Apria's 'contract' with a Kaiser Patient are? When I ask I'm directed to a place where searching for terms Philips, CPAP, etc. provides no hits. More specifically, when I purchase a piece of equipment with the aid of insurance using a % coinsurance value (this is as far as I've been able to get) and that piece of equipment no longer satisfies my medical needs (because it is broken, recalled, etc.) typically what is the responsibility of the insurer (i.e., Apria)?

You may need to bring an attorney into it.
Beware of any "class action" suits, esp. those advertised on TV or the internet.
Too many are scams
