Stopping CPAP Due to Sinus Lift Bone Graft

I’m having a sinus lift bone graft over two teeth (#13+14) in preparation for implants. Dr said I’ll need to temporarily stop CPAP during recovery.

I’ve pretty much used my CPAP every night since I started using it years ago. I’m worried about not using it as I have severe OSA. When I asked doctor how long it’d be, he just said, “We’ll see.”

Has anyone had a sinus lift bone graft and had to stop cpap? How long did you end up going without cpap? How’d it go and what strategies did you use? I’ll be sleeping in a recliner.

I also tape my mouth shut but am wondering if that’s risky without cpap?

Input would be appreciated!

P.S. I’m kinda scared because I haven’t slept without my cpap except for a few nights over the years. I’m so thankful not to be living fatigued and foggy brained since starting cpap!

Was there any explanation of WHY?

If it's that your mask would press on stuff, would a different style mask work instead?

A different mask might do the trick.
I would grab a Sleepweaver, maybe the elan.
That mask puts NO significant pressure on my face.

I asked about my cpap usage during recovery to doctor and he just said I’d have to stop it for awhile. When I asked about how long, he said he’d check at one week surgery follow up appt and we’d see. Then he started talking about other stuff and I forgot to ask why.

Since then, I read that it’s the air flow pressure from cpap (not mask pressure) that can interfere with proper healing of the bone graft when it’s on the sinus side. The bone graft is inserted through a flap cut in the upper gum but is kept below the sinus membrane.

My main concern is not being able to use cpap for one week and possibly longer!

Thanks, chunkyfrog, but mask not an issue. Using a recliner and a humidifier are the only strategies I’ve come up with so far for enduring no cpap.
