Re: Freaky Froggy--cancer, part 2
I'm so sorry to hear this, chunkyfrog, sending you wishes for speedy recovery. Have they mentioned chewing ice before chemo? That really helped my DH.

Re: Freaky Froggy--cancer, part 2
That is very interesting.
I used to chew a lot of ice, as it is a side effect of anemia, but hard on teeth.
It took me much effort to quit, but I will ask about it.
Edit: I see that cold is sometimes used to protect mucus membranes,
hair and nails.
Of course, this depends on the type and location of the cancer.
It appears that it is used with localized, solid tumors, but not so much with blood cancers.

Wishing you well as you take care of this and get it behind you. The only good thing about this type of post is all the familiar old friends who check in to be of support. Good to see all of you and think fondly of our earlier days here.

The support strengthens me, and I am grateful.
Yesterday, I had a lung function test--same pulmonology office for my cpap.
Today, I see a cardiologist--never had one before--probably about time.
I assume all the tests are to determine how much chemo I can take.

So sorry to hear, Thank goodness it is contained and hasn't metastasized. Will pray for youchunkyfrog wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 3:19 pmI noticed a lump on the right side of my neck in January.
Since then, it's been ultrasound, wait, more ultrasound, wait some more,
contrast ct scan of my neck; and finally a needle biopsy of the lump.
The doc says, "Classic Hodgkin's Lymphoma", and refers me to an oncologist.
Last week, I had a full body, head to toe PET scan.
I got the results today--it is confined to lymph nodes in the right side of my neck,
making it stage 1A. Lucky me. Really.
They still want the entire node, (for the colorful microscope slides),
so I go in for that in a couple of weeks--and I get a port, too.
No date yet for first chemo, but I already have a pixie cut-
-so I won't cry when it falls out. (But I may cuss if it doesn't)
I hate short hair--it makes me look like Charlie Brown.

Just reading this now. So sorry for what you are going through and wishing you strength and the lovingkindness of friends and family.
Damn the American health system. I was reading about a woman in Sweden who came in with a lump in her breast and it was biopsied, and a treatment plan in her hands before she walked out of the doctor's office. No ridiculous waiting.
Meanwhile my best friend died of ovarian cancer last year. For 8 months she complained of bloating and abdominal pain and they didn't do anything. She finally had to look the doctor in the eye and say "Doesn't this sound like ovarian cancer to you?"
And guess what the response was?
"Well, we can't get you in for an ultrasound for at least 2 months." They weren't even going to try to schedule something until she pointed out these symptoms are associated with ovarian cancer .
She asked what she needed to do to get an ultrasound sooner and they told her they only do STAT ultrasounds to diagnose appendicitis. So she said "OH, my right side hurts so bad!" By the time she got the ultrasound the cancer was already spread throughout her abdominal cavity.
I'm so glad your 8 month wait didn't let cancer spread. But be the squeaky wheel, don't let them play the waiting game with you ever again.

Re: OT: Freaky Froggy--cancer, part 2
The cardiologist I saw on Tuesday noticed my heart murmer
that I have known about for decades. He agreed that it sounds like
little more than an extra noise--no obvious health effects.
He changed my BP med from Verapamil to Cardevidol, and set me up for a
baseline echocardiogram and frequent monitoring while on chemo.
All I can do now is wait and try to behave myself . . .
Oh, and the bullfrog is driving again--his central vision is gone on the left side,
but he has enough peripheral vision to feel confident to drive.
Edit2: I added OT to the headline, because I know how it bugs some
otherwise very nice folks

I am determined to beat it--I have girded whatever needs to be girded.
I go under the knife on Wednesday the 25th.
I am going to ask for a copy of the pathology report--with pictures.

Maybe not so appropriate, but my 1st thought was instead of the usual "Fu@k Cancer" how about "Cancer F'd Around and Found Out"?

I was thinking more like:
"2015--I kicked Cancer's A##
2021--I am just warming up for the next loser!"
