Re: Philips Recalls Everything
omg. I wish I knew if my model was for sure affected.
60 Series REMstar Pro.
It says the System One Q Series is, and the picture it shows looks exactly like mine. But on the label of mine it just says REMstar Pro C-Flex +
hmmmm

Re: Philips Recalls Everything
I would assume it is affected based on the list of unaffected machines and the System One models aren't on the unaffected list.
We don't see any System One models on the unaffected list.
I am unsure as to what "Q series" actually means because the term Q wasn't ever really something we saw mentioned. I would assume (until proven otherwise) that it is an overall general classification as to models similar to what we had with the "M series" model line.
In other words, until proven otherwise, I would assume that all System One machines are part of the Q series.
Better to be cautious and play it safe.

While the Press release does mention the potential for carcinogenic effects, saying Philips is recalling everything because of cancer risk is alarmist and disingenuous.
In the event of exposure to degraded foam:
- The potential risks of degraded foam exposure include:
- Irritation (skin, eye, and respiratory tract), inflammatory response, headache, asthma, adverse effects to other organs (e.g. kidneys and liver) and toxic carcinogenic affects.
- To date, Philips Respironics has received several complaints regarding the presence of black debris/particles within the airpath circuit (extending from the device outlet, humidifier, tubing, and mask). Philips also has received reports of headache, upper airway irritation, cough, chest pressure and sinus infection.
In the event of exposure to chemical emissions:
- The potential risks of exposure due to chemical emissions from affected foam include: headache/dizziness, irritation (eyes, nose, respiratory tract, skin), hypersensitivity, nausea/vomiting, toxic and carcinogenic effects.
- To date, Philips has not received reports of patient impact or serious harm as a result of this issue.

Here's the rest of all the images of the machines effected by the recall. Certainly nothing here to be alarmed over here...disregard and go about your business.

I sure am glad I bought a spare Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset for my spare Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset a year ago.
I have a feeling they are about to be in short supply... shortly.

Re: Philips Recalls Everything
Question: At what rate does foam disintegrate when NOT exposed to ozone?
I would say if one has never drank the ozone-flavored Kool-Aid,
then one could ignore the "recall", as the timing of said warning "coincides" with
THE RELEASE OF NEW MODELS.

Re: Philips Recalls Everything
I got an email from cpap.com "our sponsor" about a sale on machines for Fathers Day this morning.
Business will be good, I suspect.

Re: Philips Recalls Everything
It will be interesting to see how, by who, and when the end user of one of these machines gets 'officially' notified. A lot of work and cost for a DME to do exchanges/replacements and if Phillips were to do it direct, the prescribed settings would need to be applied to the replacement unit at some point.

Re: Philips Recalls Everything
Perhaps you should look up what Alarmist actually means, it has nothing to do with how many machines are being recalled and everything to do with exaggerating a danger.
Some of those machines are over 15 years old and to date not one report of cancer attributed to Philips device usage:
So yes, the very definition of Alarmist. To date, Philips has not received reports of patient impact or serious harm as a result of this issue.
