Cpap and teeth infection
Cpap and teeth infection
I started using cpap with full face face mask in 2017. I also have a soclean by the side to sterilize the system from time to time. Prior to using the cpap I do have (teeth) bridges in my upper and lower jaws.
In 2018, while cleaning my teeth, my dentist told me I had tooth infection and therefore sent me to go and do root canal, which I did. In the 2019, the same thing happened. Now in 2020 he just told me the same thing. I am contemplating whether to go and do it or not. I am also wondering if the infections are due to the use of cpap, and is there other thing I can do apart from root canal? Does anyone have experience to share with me?

The So Clean is a complete scam... they have been taken to court and sued for their ads and machine. It doesn't clean, sanitize or disinfect anything, and the ozone can hurt your respiratory system. It's too bad you spent all that money on it!
Cpap has nothing to do with your teeth - you'll have to look somewhere else for those answers.

If you are getting dry mouth from mouth breathing, it could affect your teeth. Dry mouth can lead to cavities.

Yeah, SoClean is a scam. Doesn't clean, doesn't sanitize.

Certainly doesn't "sterilize",Whale Road wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 7:35 amYeah, SoClean is a scam. Doesn't clean, doesn't sanitize.
Don't know if it leads to root canals, but getting old often does.

Sounds like your dentist is getting new chrome wheels for his Corvette, one each year, good thing it's only got 4 wheels. Imagine the poor people he treats that drew the repair for the engine and transmission.

Thank you all for your responses. They have been very helpful.
Yes, I do experience dry mouth from time to time.
I am also learning new things about SoClean which I rely so much upon. Which machine can then be used to sterilize the cpap?

Re: Cpap and teeth infection
sterilizing your cpap isn't necessary.
to help avoid dry mouth, may i suggest xylimelts? this is a wee disk that fits between tooth and cheek. it then slowly melts overnight promoting saliva. saliva is what helps to guard your teeth against decay. one of the things that helps, anyway.
good luck!

My oral health is much better when my diabetes is under control than when it was not.
Poor circulation affects mouth tissues more than most of us suspect.
Many diabetics have no idea they have it--get tested.

Re: Cpap and teeth infection
All of the CPAP manufacturers recommend washing masks, humidifier tubs and hoses in mild soap and water. A favorite is Dawn dishwashing liquid.
Now, if you are talking about the machine, why would it need sterilizing? The only thing I do is dust it off occasionally. If you get body oil from hands on the machine, you may want to wipe it off with a mild cleaner and cloth.
You can rely on it to do no cleaning except for your wallet.

Obviously, your SoClean has done NOTHING up til now.
Chuck it.
When you toss it in the dumpster, try to hit something equally useless, if there is such a thing.

I would not put anything in my mouth when sleeping. I wouldn't want to choke and croak! I do use Hershey Kisses, they get the juices flowing safely. Jimzonker wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 11:19 amsterilizing your cpap isn't necessary.

Re: Cpap and teeth infection
I'm still pretty much a noob with the CPAP. What helped me a bit from getting dry mouth during the night is a saline rinse of the nose to aid in clearing out nasal congestion and just before going to bed a mouth rinse/gargle of Biotene mouthwash (Xylitol).

No machine can be used to sterilize the cpap, nor is it necessary.
