Can't get CMS50D+ to work with Sleepyhead

Some devices can sense a usb connection and power on, also it is possible to turn on a device from the computer using a command as well Although this is not common but it is possible

If you zoom in tighter on your graphs where you see large spikes, you'll probably see either a) a short gray line using the SpO2 Review software graphs, or b) a break in the line on your Sleepyhead software graphs. These indicate that the pulse ox reading was disrupted, probably from shifting in your sleep and coming loose momentarily.

It sounds like it's not your problem, but you have to use the cable that came with the CMS50D+. The D+ oximeter doesn't use a USB interface, and the cable provided converts USB to RS-232 or whatever interface the oximeter uses.

I believe only the 50D+ does this. The other CMS use a standard USB cable.

Oh, sorry. I just called it a USB cable because it plugged into a USB slot. Part of my problem was in fact it wasn't recognizing as a USB device, but thanks to Burkebang I got the right drivers and it installed some serial port thingy. Too technical for me, just happy it works.

I did it! I got the oximeter to work and show up in Sleephead. I'm not too worried about the radical drops and spikes in 02 and pulse rate at this time because I think it was more from me shifting around or moving. I would lay wide awake and look at it say my pulse was 49 when I knew for a fact it was around 77 (Yes I manually took my pulse). So I don't believe the oximeter to be 100% accurate. I don't believe my pulse was ever 49 or 127. It says my minimum oxygen was 79%. I don't know if that is accurate, but it's better than the 53% I was during my sleep study. I will try again tonight or in a few nights. It's not something I am going to do every night or micro manage.

It worked! Thank you so much Burkebang. I followed your directions, and I was able to see my test recording when I clicked the serial import button! I am all set, and I will use the oximeter tonight and see how it looks tomorrow in the daily tab! I love this forum, you are all so very helpful!!

It's great to hear that you've got it working

Now to give you the best possible data and the easiest time importing it, remember to syncronise the start and stop of your oximeter recording with the start and stop of your CPAP. If you have to get up it the night, you can start and stop your CPAP as you wish, Sleepyhead will display all the CPAP sessions in a proper timeline. You can also just remove the oximeter from your finger, just don't stop the recording before you syncronize it with turning off the CPAP in the morning. Then Sleepyhead will have no problem syncing the data.

If you have naps or other sessions on the CPAP that you don't have oximetry data for, just disable those CPAP sessions in the dayly tab, under "Session Information", before importing and saving the oximetry data

You are nearly there

To download, first restart Sleepyhead or terminate the active oximetry session. Once you are back into the start screen in the oximetry tab, with the oximeter connected and turned on, long click the button on the oximeter, so that the menu is showing, this puts it in upload mode. Then click the Serial Import button. If you started and stopped your recording at the same time as you started and stopped your CPAP, just click on the diskette button to save the oximetry session you downloaded. Then the graphs will be automatically linked and shown in the dayly tab, once you change dates to another date and back to the current date.
If you're only testing, I recommend not saving the downloaded session.

You can also import SPO/R files, but then you have to download to SPO2 Review software and upload that file to Sleepyhead. I think that direct serial import is the easiest way to do it. Uploading don't erase the data, so if you want to, you can also upload to SPO2 Review.

The SPO2 Assistant software will not work with your oximeter, so you might as well uninstall it. Any single device will only work with either SPO2 Assistant or SPO2 Review/Manager, never both.

Thanks to everyone for your help. I finally got something to install on com 5 when I rebooted and re-plugged in the USB cable. Now it works in live mode with the green heart icon (SpO2 Review). The software with the red heart icon (SpO2 Assistant) still won't detect it. Sleepyhead found it and works in live mode as well. As for stored data, no luck yet. There are no *.spo or *.spoR files to be found. I only recorded for a few minutes, maybe it wasn't long enough.

I have installed the program and the drivers and the device is not detected in either Sleepyhead or the Sp02 program it came with. I have even tried a different USB cable. Is there a setting that needs to be set on the oximeter? Or does the oximeter need to be on or off or something specific to work?

I had some sort of issue sounding exactly like this with my CMS50F that I got recently to replace the E model.

I had to go into "Device Manager" and update the COM driver there which resolved it.

Sorry I'm a little short on instructions but basically go - Right Click on Computer - Select Properties - Up at the top left corner (Select Device Manager) - Scroll down to Com/Ports and click to open them - Click to highlight the listed Port (should be Com3 I believe) - then [Right Click] & chose "Update Driver Software".. Might also have to reboot after this process to get things working properly, I can't remember.

Edit: Oh yes, As noted by other posters, the device has to be ON.

This reminds me. I still have yet to re-try with my F model for an overnight and to attempt to match it to SleepyHead. Thanks for the reminder (thread) .

Go into Window's control panel > Device Manager and see if there are any yellow flags.

Also try to plug into another PC to see if the device shows up.

Installing the programs is a good way of checking that everything is in order and SPO2 Review gives you very nice Oximetry reports.
