Hee Hee. I feel like I got away with something!

Post by millich » Mon Sep 21, 2009 5:40 pm

I had my first followup appointment today after starting xPAP almost 2 months ago. Some of you may remember that I was pretty nervous about what to tell my doc about why I changed the pressure on my own. (Well, actually, not on my own. I did it with help from you guys). He didn't notice. Everytime he opened my chart, I started talking about how well I'm doing - which I am.

He got to feel good for curing me. I got to feel good for taking control of my own therapy. I call that "win-win"!

In reality, though, it's you all who are responsible for how well I'm doing. I can't thank you all enough!!!

Now I'm off (while suppressing a giggle) to bump my minimum pressure up another1 cm. Did I ask my doctor about this? NO, I DIDN'T. It's heresy, I know, but I value the advice I've gotten here more than I value his. He's the guy, after all, who send me home with a "prescription" for APAP set at 4 - 20. I appreciate that he did what needed to be done so that I got a CPAP machine. Thank you doc, but - with a little help from my CPAPtalk friends - I'LL TAKE IT FROM HERE!

I have an acquaintance who had an AutoSet II delivered and set up in CPAP mode with no mention of the ability to use Auto....Magically, the AutoSet II moved into the Auto with the range beginning pressure being what the sleep study recommended. Few weeks later, DME came for a home visit, downloaded data, looked at data on display and remarked the max pressure is being used and noted CPAP treatment effectiveness....acquaintance alot!!!!! Only the APAP owner seemed to know Magic Happened!!!!!.......

Great story! Thanks for sharing.

Way to go girl!!

Isn't it amazing how well things go when we are an active participant in things? I always say be proactive instead of reactive.

Thanks Carol, Gary & kteague!

Technically, Carol, I wasn't proactive. I was sneaky. That's different. Maybe I'll have the guts for proactive next time.

You guys are the best. Thanks for everything.

Sneaky works!

Shows to go you just how "attentive" the sleep doctors and local DME suppliers can be. Yeah, uh huh. Sure they are.

OR how tactful and careful they are about acknowledging or heaven forbid encouraging you to be proactive in your health care. Maybe. Don't count on it. The former is more likely.

AND, it was NOT sneaky. You just used good common sense!!

I already have my answer planned when my doc notices I've been playing with the pressures. It's a very simple answer. Straight-forward and to the point, and sums up the precepts and values held by, hopefully, everyone on this forum...
"I'm experimenting."

We call it "tweaking" in this forum. Experimenting sounds more risky than "tweaking".
