Pressure reduction in the morning.

Post by jand02659 » Wed Jul 29, 2009 8:08 pm

I have been using a Respironics REMaster M Series cpap machine for about a year and a half now. I had headaches almost every night and snored something terrible before I began using the machine. My doctor added oxygen with a concentrator which I leave in the next room and use a long tube for noise reduction.
What a relief to no longer have the headaches and my long suffering husband no longer has to listen to my snoring. I definately get a better night's sleep and to be honest wouldn't consider going without the cpap if I can help it. I forgot it once on an overnight visit and was miserable...each episode of apnea was accentuated after not having them for so long. Had to sleep sitting up on the couch!
My issue is this, the pressure in my machine seems to be reduced in the morning. I still breathe okay but it definately doesn't seem as strong and I seem to be pulling a bit for air as I awake. The setting inside the machine still reads 9 which is what it is supposed to be. Is it just that I have adjusted to using the cpap or has anyone else noticed this problem? Is there anything I can do? I definately feel that I could stand an increase in pressure but don't know how to push the pressure up to a 10 and in order to just get a new mask covered by insurance I have to travel 2 hours for a fitting from Apria office which involves missing a day of work.
Any suggestions?

Get your machine checked out to ensure it is delivering the pressure it should AND talk to your doc about this early morning symptom.

Your experience (and question) is typical for most new users and is posted on the forum very frequently. It's a sign that you're getting used to the pressure. Your machine is (I would bet) working properly.......it's YOU that is adapting to your therapy.

If you REALLY doubt the pressure, you could take your machine in to your DME and have them check it with a manometer.

Ditto to what Wulfman said.

The hurricane you started with now feels like a gentle breeze in your mind.

I don't this qualifies as a newbie to CPAP.
