Medicare coverage multiple states?

Post by Waterguy » Fri May 27, 2022 1:55 pm

Newbie here, I had my sleep study in 2015. Insurance paid for the first Fisher/ Paykel Icon. I purchased a second one as a back up a few years later. Initial machine quit working last week.I am seeking to obtain a new machine of any manufacturer thru Medicare/ or?. Is there a company that could service my machine in both Colorado and Hawaii? Aero care is the local distributor here in the Colorado mountains. Saying it could be 1 to 3 months wait for a new Cpap? I am open to different providers and options. Thanks Waterguy

This is going to depend on your supplemental insurance, so you should check with them. And if you look on the back of your Medicare and You booklet or go to www.medicare.gov you can find a number for the SHIP program which is FREE health insurance counseling and they may be able to help you out.

I lived on the Big Island and worked in health care 30 years ago. At that time, health care options were very limited, but hopefully they are better now. I know a few years back Crapria (Apria) was in Hawaii (but only on Oahu, they shipped machines and supplies to the other islands) and pretty much everywhere else, but you will need to see if they are contracted with your supplemental insurance.

IF it's the good 'ol fashioned Medicare it should be good in all 50 states - IF it has Advantage in the name ALL Bets are OFF - there is NO Advantage and may only be good in one certain county.

You did not mention who your supplement insurance is - that may factor in your choices unless it's like mine and it will cover anything that Medicare covers.

fwiw - the DME does not repair this equipment but will facilitate sending it out for warranty repair.

I think you will be best off using whoever has a copy of your records to order again. Hopefully you also have a copy of your sleep study and equipment order - if not get started on that right away and always keep both.

For mail order equipment I use https://verushealthcare.com/medicare/ give them a call.

IF all else fails you may want to consider buying a used cpap - if you know your settings.
