Lip balm with mouth taping?

Post by Deborah K. » Sat Nov 27, 2021 12:22 pm

I am looking into mouth taping. I read a review of mouth tapes and on one a lady said she was able to use the tape with lip balm. Have any of you been able to use lip balm while using mouth tape?

Oil and adhesive do not mix--or, rather oil cancels adhesive.
(Goo-Gone works because it is oily.)
You only put the balm where you don't want the tape to stick.
Alternatively, painting tender skin with Milk of Magnesia (MOM), allowing it to dry,
then dusting off excess, is an old trick mentioned on this board several years ago.

Yes, I use Aquaphor every night with 2" 3M surgical tape. Works fine. The surgical tape works good but leaves a sticky residue on your skin that is very hard to remove. It actually almost adheres to good on clean skin.

Thanks Kim. I am going to try using lip balm with a different tape. Folks say it comes off quite easily and leaves no residue. Here's a link in case you want to check it out:

Purse your lips, so that the red parts, where you'd put the lip balm, isn't exposed, and then tape.

I used a tacky lip balm (plain old Chapstick) to very lightly stick my lips together at first, and that was enough without tape. I didn't need to use it for very long.

But if you put a lip balm on your lips, pull your lips in a bit and tape on the outside with your lips tucked in. You don't have to tape super tight like a package going through the mail. There should be enough room to relax your lips, but the tape will be stuck to the skin around your lips, not on your lips.
